For more information about Progress Energy, visit the company's Web site at http://www.progress-energy.com/.  Job Description Location:  Brunswick Nuclear Plant, Southport, NCThis position is for a Safe Shutdown Analysis/Station Blackout Engineer at the Brunswick Nuclear Plant.  Experience in program management of existing safe shutdown analysis, with a background in the licensing process and technical knowledge of BTP APCSB 9.5-1, 10CFR50, Appendix R, and 10CFR50.63 technical evaluations is required.  This background should include performance of plant safe shutdown capability analysis and station blackout coping evaluations. The position requires the following specific experience: Safe Shutdown Analysis / Circuit Analysis --Plant System Knowledge --Appendix R System/Component Selection --Appendix R Circuit Analysis --Electrical Coordination and Separation --Fire Area Analysis --Manual Action Feasibility and Procedure Evaluation Other duties include obtaining and maintaining qualification for support of the site Emergency Response Organization and engineering support for field activities associated with assigned system modifications and testing. Requirements: ---BS degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline is required.  ---Ten years of experience in an engineering job related to electrical/I&C design support is desired, with five plus years of direct involvement with safe shutdown program management. ---Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills and a working knowledge of Windows-based computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite are required.  Additional requirements include obtaining and maintaining unescorted access to the nuclear plant and participation in the random fitness for duty program. Position will require some call-out and outage support. Progress Energy's mission is to provide a safe, secure working environment for personnel in the plants. The selected candidate will be required to obtain U.S. Nuclear Power Plant Unescorted Access and will participate in the company's Fitness-for-Duty Program. Candidates may also be required to maintain qualifications and on-call responsibilities in support of the plant Emergency Response Organization.  In order to obtain unescorted access, the selected candidate will be required to complete a Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ).  Information from this form will be used to conduct an extensive background investigation as required by Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations.  It is unlikely you will be granted access if (1) you have had a positive drug or alcohol test within the past five years, (2) you have used or possessed drugs in the past five years, (3) you have a felony conviction in the past five years, (4) you have recent misdemeanor convictions, (5) you falsify or omit information or fail to fully cooperate during the investigation process.  This list is not inclusive.Basic qualifications: Career level.  Fully competent in use of both principles and application.  Works independently on tasks/projects with limited supervision.  Receives guidance only unusual or complex projects or issues.  Identifies problems and possible solutions and takes appropriate action for resolution.
