Tech Support Engineer
TECHNICAL SUPPORT ENGINEER
Zetron, Inc., a recognized industry leader in providing mission-critical communication applications has an immediate opportunity available for a Technical Support Engineer. This position performs a variety of semi-routine support activities in the technical support function. Products supported are radio dispatching switches and telephony phone systems. Some application software packages accompany these systems and are an integral part of their operation.
Responsibilities:
- Provides troubleshooting and repair via technical phone support to resellers and end-users.
- Supplies product information of a technical nature for troubleshooting purposes and mentoring caller on product maintenance.
- May write installation notes and application notes that provide reseller/end-users with guidelines for performing upgrades, maintenance, and product integration in the field.
- Assesses and responds to situations where standard procedures have failed in isolating or fixing problem equipment.
- Maintains daily log of all calls and work performed on company database.
- Reports design, reliability, and maintenance problems to engineering for review.
- Reports product manual corrections or improvements to Technical Publications.
- May be asked to support reseller and end-user training programs.
- Some travel to customer sites may be required for on-site maintenance and repair when severity of situation indicates that phone support is not sufficient.
- Some 24-hour phone support may be required to maintain Zetron’s After Hours Emergency Service.
- Occasional travel, as required.
Requirements:
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job is acceptable. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be through:
Education: electronics and computer skills as acquired with a technical degree and
Experience: Minimum two years experience in a technical support environment.
- Intermediate computer skills such as with databases, DOS based PC’s, and Window based PC’s.
- Use of test equipment such as telephone simulators, service monitors, digital multi-meter (DMM), and oscilloscope.
- Solder station skills sometimes required.
- Excellent communication skills, problem-solving ability, listening skills & good attention to detail helpful.
