Software Engineer-Configuration Management

JOB SUMMARY:
Plan, conduct and supervise on engineering research design and development assignments for critical aspects of complex problems, or major projects.
Responsibilities: PRIMARY FUNCTION/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Full maintenance and support of a complex software build system to include required and suggested enhancements for future products. The build system must support concurrent development. This includes maintenance and support for all necessary build/CM machines/servers.
• Full maintenance and support of a complex customer facing installation system. This includes working with the development teams on any needed architectural changes to support future products.
• Creation of manufacturing “Gold Disks� (i.e. Hard Drives) that include a customer initiated recovery mechanism to restore a hard drive back to factory default settings.
• Creation of software CDs and responsible for the underlying architecture needed for the CDs
• Primary contact for all interactions with Microsoft and other OEM suppliers to ensure all OEM software is kept up to date on our Gold Disks. Research upcoming changes and anticipate work required to support OEM modifications (i.e newer revisions of Microsoft Operating Systems)
• Work with our Product Verification teams to ensure all of our internal applications on our Gold Disks and CDs interoperate correctly.
• Bring software configuration management expertise and best practices to our organization to ensure effective concurrent development and releases of our products. Responsible for training and communication out to all impacted stakeholders.
• Evaluate progress and results; recommend major changes in procedures or objectives.
• Research new technologies for future use.

Qualifications: SPECIFIC JOB SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Experience in using Software Build and Installation automation tools
• Experience in sound Software Configuration Management processes
• Experience in one or more software scripting languages such as Perl
• Understanding of software and hardware interactions for development of proprietary software update processes
• Excellent communication skills
• Research and analytical skills required with ability to make presentations
• Excellent organizational skills required
• Must be highly motivated and able to take primary software ownership in a fast paced dynamic environment
• Effective interaction with all stakeholders (Project Managers, Development teams, Manufacturing, and Product Verification teams) to solicit project requirements and turn them into highly desired solutions

HIGHLY DESIRED JOB SKILLS:
• Experience in Agile Software Development SCRUM methodologies
• Experience in using CruiseControl for build automation
• Experience in using Installshield to develop custom installations
• Experience in Release Planning for concurrent development
• Experience working with complex systems to include proprietary hardware and software systems

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or Computer Science, with a minimum of 7 years practical, technical experience, or equivalent combination of education and related experience. Advanced technical degree desirable.
