Senior System Test Engineer - MediaFLO USA
Job Description
This position is part of the Technology Planning group. The responsibility of this group is to define the overall technology architecture, research, design, plan, develop, test/certify and rollout new technologies for current and future product/service releases of all data services networks maintained by MediaFLO USA.
This position focuses on Customer requirements and strategic business objectives that are translated into MediaFLO product design which are tested/certified and rolled out onto the Production networks.
Specific tasks include:
- Working closely with Product Management and others in the Technology Planning group in order to sufficiently understand the technology end to end to enable test planning and execution.
- Developing technical expertise on platforms and network elements managed by the team and active trouble shooting to investigate issues.
- Building and executing test plans aimed at integrating new advanced network technologies, network components and radio frequency (RF) and/or wireless transmission into our overall service platform.
- Understanding the wireless device commercialization process specific to network Operators, including; wireless network infrastructure environments, interoperability, software delivery and upgrade process impacts, backwards compatibility and standards compliance issues, in order to coordinate and execute our test strategies.
- Work with several developing organizations to build system test strategies, test facility requirements, and to manage the execution of such plans including simulating tools or configuring wireless devices for end-to-end system testing.
- Work typically includes in-depth assessment of the networked application needs, providing network modeling and simulation testing, consulting to further clarify needs, and engineering high-speed technology network transports to deliver application functionality, in our integration/test environment.
- Integrating and configuring MediaFLO server's applications software.
- Troubleshoot issues, implement projects and coordinate with others to clarify needs and make necessary arrangements as required to support ongoing efforts.
- Support Test Case management software and defect tracking applications.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of test work policies, procedures, and best practices.
Skills/Experience
A qualified candidate for this position should exhibit:
Hands-on experience with wireless data infrastructure, networking security devices that include routers, switches, also familiar with UNIX/LINUX, 3G equipment, etc., and with networking protocols that include IP, TCP/IP, SNMP, Mobile IP, H264, etc with a proven track record in delivering high quality products and services with a low level of defects.
Experience in automated testing of wireless device infrastructure platforms and with hardware/software automation/simulation test tools in a large scale software build, integration and test environment.
Technical understanding of wireless applications and network interactions with handsets - e.g., network authentication, 3G messaging, SMS, application downloads, etc.
Experience working with system test procedures and OEM/manufacturer test processes.
Experience with wireless device configuration/provisioning tools, etc.
Ability to clearly report any test failures to the relevant parties involved so that the problems can be remedied in a timely manner.
Must be able to multitask with and understand a variety of disciplines such as software development, system integration and test, operations, etc.
A solid understanding of project lifecycle including requirements gathering, analysis and design, development, testing, and deployment.
Proven problem solving skills, strategies, and tactics in a variety of project areas.
Expert analytical capabilities and decision making skills in the presence if ambiguity and conflicting information.
Additional Skills
Experience testing applications using e.g. Catapult, TestRunner, Spirent etc. or equivalent tests on automation tools.
Experience testing applications deployed on the Qualcomm MFT like MLI, LDAP simulator, WAP Gateway simulator is a plus.
Experience with data wireless technologies and air interface(s): CDMA, GSM, TDMA, UMTS, EVDO, LDAP, Radius, MIP, GRE, RLP etc. a plus.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, negotiation and written and verbal communication skills is a must.
A hands-on attitude with a willingness to do what it takes to get the job done.
Education Requirements
Four year college degree - Preferably Bachelor's in Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering required.
