Company Fairchild SemiconductorLocation South Portland, ME 04106Status Full Time, EmployeeJob Category EngineeringRelevant Work Experience 2+ to 5 Years Company Fairchild Semiconductor JOB DESCRIPTIONSR APPLICATIONS ENGINEER DUTIESThe Applications Engineer will be responsible for the definition and support of new mixed-signal ICs, targeted at the ultra-portable and hand-held market. The individual will be a member of a development team for new products, and will work closely together with application engineering peers but also with technical, marketing, IC designers, test and product engineers. The main objective of the applications engineer is to evaluate newly designed silicon as it is applied in the target system such that operation and performance in the target system is guaranteed, and provide follow-up support to customers during their design phase. A successful engineer will be able to understand how the customer uses the products, what types of challenges are typically encountered during the system design phase, and solutions to those challenges. These challenges include, but are not limited to: signal integrity, power consumption, partial power-down, and electromagnetic interference. The day-to-day activities involve lab work, designing evaluation boards, setting up manual and automated benches that subject the product under different test conditions including temperature corners. All findings are recorded and documented, and may be provided to prospective customers. Tests include but are not limited to Power Supply Rejection Ratio, noise analysis, EMI, ground bounce, temperature sensitivity analysis, shutdown and standby current consumption, and signal integrity analysis. The individual also develops the supporting documentation that will facilitate the adoption of new products by prospective customers through developing customer evaluation systems, demo boards and documentation that includes, but is not limited to, schematics, evaluation guide, application software, a graphical user interface and application notes. Lastly, support of the regional FAE teams and field sales teams with applications information related to the product families, and development of training materials for FAE teams and field sales teams. Strategy/product presentations will be prepared and presented to internal management and external customers. Domestic and international travel is required, approximately 10%-20% of the time. SKILLSThe successful candidate will have at least 3 years of hands-on work solving system-level applications issues, utilizing common laboratory equipment such as: Data Generators, Oscilloscopes, and Network Analyzers. Good listening skills are required to understand customer problems and articulate solutions. Solid analytical skills, combined with a structured approach to problem solving are required. The individual must have the ability to work with minimal supervision, and have good time management skills. Familiarity with USB communication and mobile communication technologies is a plus. Excellent verbal & written communication skills are required. Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools is necessary. EDUCATIONBSEE minimum, and an MSEE is a plus.
