Research & Development Electrial Engineer
Due to continued growth, a great opportunity exists for a Ph.D E.E. to join the R&D team located in Orland Park, Il. Responsibility:Conduct independent applied research in the development of new product opportunities in copper based high performance LAN based connectors and cabling systems. Explore emerging connectivity applications that may require new electronic circuitry, materials, assembly techniques, and processes to improve product performance while maintaining a competitive manufacturing cost structure. This may include incorporating improvements to existing products, OEM products and the development of new products. Interface with Product Management, Copper Test Lab, Production, Quality Control, and other Panduit Corp. departments as required. Work with Legal department and department Patent Manager on all designs as well as reviewing external patents. Contribute on international standards body to help define new standards. Interface with outside suppliers on technical areas as needed. Design, simulate, develop and test prototypes to product specifications and customer requirements per engineering procedures. Conduct competitive product evaluations. Coordinate with Product Management to create product specifications for new products with customer input. Working within a stage-gate project management environment, lead the research efforts from concept through the proof of principle phase. Specific Duties: Conduct independent applied research in the development of new products or in product improvements in the area of high data rate connectivity and cabling products. Conduct research in transmission line based products using differential signaling. Explore future electronic system applications and relate them to cabling needs. Build and troubleshoot prototypes/concept models. Perform high bandwidth measurements. Conduct competitive product testing and evaluations. Create product requirements and technical documentation for development. Work with product management to create product specifications for new products. Support product development as required. Some travel to other divisions, trade shows, seminars, standards meetings and customers will be required. Create accurate project schedules and manage them to achieve the identified milestones and target completion dates. Skills, Training, Experience Required: MSEE required (PhD preferred) with 6+ years of experience in ElectroMagnetic Field related developments (or signal integrity) and high speed electronic design; · Strong knowledge of and experience with IEEE / ANSI / IEC standards, practices and associated compliance testing relating to electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI);·Innovative Product / Component design, development and testing experience;·Strong analytical and problem solving skills; Experience in electro-magnetic measurement, analysis and simulation; Experience in the application of transmission line theory and its practice; Experience in industrial and power noise analysis and reduction techniques CAD experience (ANSOFT, MATLAB or equivalent tools); Experience with lab equipment and procedures (Network Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzers) Team oriented and with ability to lead the project engineering efforts; Ability to manage multiple projects effectively and efficiently; Proven ability to create, maintain, and meet project milestone completion dates and keep organized project records.
