Position Summary Reporting directly to the CTO, the successful candidate will be the principal software engineer within the Advanced Technology group. As such he or she would lead software development for advanced technology prototypes and building blocks that have a software component. He or she would be capable of all software development activities from architecting, through design and implementation. Responsibilities: The successful candidate would be the subject matter expert in Advanced Technology for IP based value added solutions, including real time solutions such as VoIP. He or she would be a hands-on contributor to advanced technology projects related to these solutions, particularly in the area of software development. He or she would monitor relevant IP standards activities for Plantronics and participate in internal strategic planning related to IP based solutions. The Ideal candidate: · At least 10 years relevant experience in the area of data communications, internet protocol, network infrastructure, VoIP, telecommunications or protocol development.· 5 + years experience in systems engineering or architecting of real time IP based solutions (video, voice, gaming) with strong evidence of creating innovative solutions or products.· Experience working on problems which are difficult and complex in nature. Must apply critical analysis to software design and arrive at solutions independently. Problems usually have open limits, are diverse in scope, and often contain multi-disciplinary elements.· Strong capability in developing software based solutions.· 7+ years programming in C/C++· 5+ years of programming in a Windows environment· Experience programming in a Linux or UNIX environment is desirable· 3+ years of server and database experience· Experience working with .net and C# is required· Experience programming web-based applications is desirable· Knowledge of upper layer IP protocols and security issues· Ability to address a wide variety of technical issues – a true generalist· Experience in working in an entrepreneurial, start-up environment is a big plus· Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent. Non-degree applicants with sufficient relevant experience will also be considered.
