Paralegal - Intellectual Property
The Opportunity:Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks a professional, innovative and detailed individual for our Paralegal – Intellectual Property position. Paralegal – Intellectual Property Responsibilities: Perform legal research, draft legal documents, write memos and letters, and other special projects. Support patent and trademark prosecution. Manage docket and track progress for various intellectual property matters including office actions, patent applications, infringement opinions, and various other projects assigned by the patent attorney. Review and route all incoming and outgoing intellectual property correspondence. Handle communications with domestic and foreign counsel in various patent and trademark matters. Manage, organize, and file all intellectual property records. Maintain intellectual property database. Follow and improve SEL processes.Qualifications: Minimum of three years experience as a paralegal, depending on educational or professional background Proficiency in legal and factual research, including the use of Lexis or Westlaw and other Internet services Ability to read, interpret and apply laws and rules with attorney guidance Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Ability and willingness to work cooperatively in a team business and legal environment Ability and willingness to develop expertise in required areas of law Exceptional interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills Excellent analytical and problem solving skills Background check results satisfactory to SEL Negative drug test result(s) Preferred Qualifications: Experience and familiarity with United States Patent and Trademark Office procedures and forms Paralegal certificate or any combination equivalent to experience and education of a bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience, and minimum of five years of paralegal experience.
