FPGA Designer
Job Purpose:
Produces FPGA designs and modifications by identifying project objectives and issues; researching field-programmable gate array (FPGA) engineering techniques and approaches; developing FPGA, component, and logic designs; verifying and validating designs through simulations and tests.
Duties:
* Determines FPGA architecture issues by studying design project concepts, objectives, and requirements; analyzing user and potential user input; evaluating similar and related products and systems; identifying and establishing performance standards.
* Organizes engineering design project by identifying short-term and long-range issues; preparing timetables, cost estimates, and required resources.
* Develops FPGA design plans by researching, analyzing, selecting, and applying FPGA architecture engineering techniques and criteria; adapting and modifying FPGA architecture engineering approaches and options; developing and evaluating new FPGA architectures using high-level description language; generating routing architectures; preparing layouts; collaborating with related engineering design teams; evaluating components, materials, and suppliers; identifying and resolving design integration/interface issues; determining and establishing FPGA design specifications.
* Verifies and validates FPGA design performance by establishing reliability and durability test standards; developing design simulations; proving-out design and circuits using computer simulation; completing design analysis; conducting compatibility evaluations; identifying, isolating, and resolving performance problems.
* Documents FPGA design by recording design features, functions, operational requirements, and warnings; specifying operational training.
* Maintains engineering design team accomplishments by coordinating actions; obtaining expert input; reviewing open issues and action items; contributing information and engineering analysis to team meetings and reports; guiding engineering technicians.
* Implements engineering design by providing technical and customer support; resolving production and process problems related to engineering design.
* Prepares engineering design reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends.
* Updates job knowledge by tracking and understanding emerging FPGA design methodologies; participating in educational opportunities and professional organizations; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks.
* Enhances engineering and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
