Experienced Metrology Engineer Needed!!!
We have an immediate position open for a Metrology Engineer to work in the Chester County, PA area. This person will serve on standards bodies, devise calibration methods and fixtures, prepare and defend uncertainty budgets. They will ensure compliance with standards, recommend specifications, and oversee environmental testing of specifications. This is a full-time, permanent career opportunity. Salary is commensurate with experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Serve on standards bodies (B89, ASTM, etc.) to establish fair standards that are in the best interests of the company and its customers.
• Work with engineering teams and Chief Scientist to design calibration methods and fixtures that minimize (1) measurement uncertainty and (2) test time in Production and Service.
• Prepare uncertainty budgets, following accepted practices, to properly account for error sources.
• Design experiments to find type A uncertainties.
• Defend test procedures and uncertainty budgets before ISO 17025 assessors.
• Take steps to ensure that the company is 100% compliant with standards.
• Recommend specifications for company instruments.
• Review company literature to ensure that specifications are accurately represented.
• Design and oversee environmental testing related to specifications.
• Establish system for ensuring traceability of reference trackers.
• Serve as a liaison to customers to answer questions on instrument performance and compliance with standards.
• Participate in development of company early-warning Production database. Mine data to find opportunities to improve the quality of company products.
JOB QUALIFCATIONS:
• Ph.D. (preferred) or M.S. in physics or engineering.
• At least 3 years experience in metrology.
• Experience in creating and defending uncertainty budgets.
• Good understanding of interferometers, atmospheric propagation of light, kinematic design, thermal effects.
• Good physical intuition.
• Skill in advanced mathematics, including optimization methods.
• Skill in verbal and written communication.
• Skill in (at least) some of the following: MathCAD, Matlab, Mathematica, C, C++.
• Must be able to travel (probably 25%).
• Tools and equipment used might include: computers, trackers, arms, scanners, interferometers and other metrology instruments, cameras, and electrical instruments.
