Director of Software Engineering
A Director of Software Engineering is required for Internet-based telematics and productivity applications aimed at the heavy construction space. Candidates must have significant experience managing software development teams, and a proven track-record for bringing projects in on time and on budget. The applications being developed support near-real-time high transaction rates and are based on a scalable SOA hosted in a mission critical environment, therefore ability and experience managing projects of this type is critical. Candidates must have ten-plus year’s software engineering experience and at least five years in software engineering leadership roles. Recent work with, and/or management of, projects utilizing Agile processes and those using the Microsoft .NET framework and related technologies, the C# language, and Oracle database development, is required. Experience/understanding in the following areas is sought: SOA; scalable, fault-tolerant, mission critical systems; web services, Windows services; web-based applications; Windows applications, Adobe Flex; SQL & database development; Oracle; telematics; Delphi-based applications, communications; wireless connectivity; mapping & coordinate systems. Our environment is dynamic, collaborative and team-oriented. This position reports the business area’s Director of Engineering, and in turn will manage all of the business area’s software engineering personnel and their various teams. The Software Engineering Manager is required to work very closely and in concert with various other roles including; Product Marketing personnel, customers that require technical discussion, Product Management, Project Management, Application Specialists, QA/Testers, device hardware and firmware engineering teams, various external service providers (e.g. mapping sub-systems), and internal service providers (e.g. order entry & billing) Finance, and other internal business areas. Candidates must possess a high degree of initiative, focus, flexibility, drive and self motivation. Dedication and the will do what it takes to succeed are highly sought. Excellent English communication skills are a requirement. The position also requires some travel (mostly domestic) approximately once per month. Education requirements: University degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or similar field. Ten years minimum hands-on software engineering experience, and at least five years in SE leadership roles. Experience in Agile software development. Skill requirements: Experience managing/leading dynamic teams working with C# .NET and Oracle based technologies on high transaction-rate mission-critical applications.
