Director of Business Development
Sonetics Corporation creates communication solutions for teamwork in challenging environments. Our two brands, Flightcom and Firecom, serve pilots and emergency service workers by offering a range of headset and intercom systems to fit varied needs. Sonetics also supplies equipment under private label to customers who apply the technology in diverse team environments. We are currently looking to fill a position of Director of Business Development. This position provides a unique opportunity to lead our company into substantial opportunities in fire safety, emergency services, industrial, and government and military markets. Job Purpose: To provide the overall research, goal-setting, and effective action for serving the markets in which Sonetics operates or could enter. In conjunction with the General Manager and the leadership team, the Director of Business Development is responsible for developing the strategic plan for revenue generation, and product development for the company, and providing direction to achieve the plan. Job Customers: The Owners, Leadership Team, Employees, Customers, Strategic Partners, Vendors. Collaborates with: The President, General Manager, Director of Engineering, Corporate Sales & Marketing Manager, Strategic Partners, and some external advisors. Reports to: The General Manager, with a dotted-line relationship to the President Essential Job Duties: • Research, evaluate, and develop plans for expanding markets and/or market growth. • Define ROIs for new markets and new product development. • Make strategic partnerships effective using appropriate, collaborative business models with other companies with a focus on Sonetics’ profitability goals and objectives. • Identify and evaluate new products, markets and applications for implementation. • Work with leadership team to develop the long/short term strategic plans for the company with particular attention to market and product planning, growth planning, and product sourcing. • Lead and develop quality business relationships and partnerships and appropriately involve other key Sonetics employees. • Partner with internal/external resources throughout the sales cycle as needed. • Consistently provide innovative, creative, and practical business solutions.
• Other duties as assigned by the President or his designee. Required Work Experience: • 10 years Business Development, sales and marketing experience • Strong general business to business experience including business contract negotiations. • Experience in electronics-based products • Strong profit and loss and project management experience required • Well-networked in region and internationally to bring resources toward the company Required Education: • Bachelors degree • MBA with marketing and engineering expertise is desirable Required Skills/Knowledge: • Conceptual “big picture” thinker with a scientific and creative approach to matching products and markets, people and tasks, resources and opportunities, while realistic about development costs and delivery dates. • Experience implementing systems, processes, major product introductions • Successful experience developing strategic plans constructively, collaboratively, and cross-culturally • Proven, substantive market research skills and knowledge • Writing of proposals, budgets, pro-formas, ROI proposals, government procurement processes, contracts, patents and licensing applications • Works well with ambiguity; trains and equips others to thrive in that environment • Exceptional, proven communication skills, including accountability in person and in writing • Computer skills and administrative skills including advanced research, multi-tasking, project management, word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, internet • Demonstrated experience setting goals, measuring performance, and taking corrective action Required Natural Talents: • Developing/Initiating –developing a vision and motivating others to jointly participate in its accomplishment • Planning – mapping out long-range goals to reach organizational plans • Negotiating – uniting unrelated persons or groups in the agreement of a defined goal, idea, or project • Discernment – examining, contemplating subject matter, constructing a response, and making prudent spending decisions • Giving Presentations – speaking clearly in front of an audience without prepared speeches Values and Qualities: integrity; honesty; confidentiality, transparency, authenticity, self discipline; respect for others; ethics beyond reproach; flexible and teachable
