Designer

Responsibility:This is a “senior” designer position specializing in complete Tool design, including plastic part design, mechanism design, industrial design, or other areas as applicable. Work assignments vary and are difficult in character, involving significant responsibility and independence as well as interaction with “senior” engineering management.Specific duties of this position require the creation and review of drawing/designs for accuracy/errors. This individual needs to adhere to engineering procedures, use practical and cost-effective engineering and analytical skills as well as identify nonvalue-added procedures and activities. He or she must take responsibility for actions, identify mistakes, ask questions for direction and clarification. This position requires one to take control/ownership of activities and follow through as well as improve and add to existing design skills.This individual needs to identify problems and opportunities, seek out solutions to problems and understand opportunities in terms of divisional/corporate strategic objectives. He or she will be expected to define ambitious, attainable goals, to take justified risks in converting opportunities to action. This individual should accomplish goals/objectives providing greatest benefit-cost and focus on what can be done versus what cannot be done.Productivity, organization and planning are essential for this position. The individual must meet defined activity priorities and schedules for multiple, simultaneous projects, get “roadblocks” cleared that hinder activity success and ensure correct prioritization of activities. This position requires one to find out what to do and where to go next to keep activities moving, stop an activity when value of output diminishes and maintain organized and current project (or CAD/drawing) files. He or she will provide status updates for engineering management and will work with multiple activity resources: divisional and interdivisional. He or she will also apply learning (classes, seminars, etc...) to practical application while using all computer tools and computer-aided skills needed for projects including the use of time management skills. Skills, Training, Experience Required:·  College degree or Panduit-recognized national professional organization/society or certification·  RECOMMENDED/PREFERRED: AS or BS (technical or science) ·  Successful complete of Panduit engineering education career level requirements·  Over 15 years experience or equivalent gained from high performance and a structured development plan·  Provide extensive, directly applicable technical/ engineering expertise ·  Provide competitor(s) advantage(s)·  Perform specific analytical calculations such as system effectiveness, algebra, trigonometry andgeometry·  Adaptable to multiple, specific technical applications and concepts·  Create and evaluate designs using data collection and analysis, engineering calculations, testing, etc. ·  Focus on complicated designs (e.g. specific parts, assemblies, and kinematics)  ·  Responsible for specific, major project tasks (in design phase)·  Work closely with engineers in transitioning conceptual designs to implementable designs·  Direct, coordinate and review the activities of technicians, drafters, and designers·  Maximize use of computer systems and advance computer-aided skills (e.g. CAD, 3-D   geometry, solids, surfacing, layouts) to design based on engineering sketches, and/or   specifications See Job Description
