Continuation Engineering Manager
Requirements
Bose Hires Engineers with a Passion for Engineering: Bose is very proud of the fact that we hire engineers with intellect, vision and passion. Our best engineers often show a lifelong pattern of engineering curiosity. Remember that kid who used their first screwdriver to take things apart, just to see how something worked? The odds are good that when he or she grew up and got their BSEE that they ended up working for Bose! It's one thing to be able to draw a circuit, and something else altogether to understand how it works.
If you truly understand your work-at a level well beyond the ordinary Electrical Engineer-you're the kind of engineer we're looking for at Bose. You can choose to work alone or on a team, depending on your preference. In addition to the time you spend on analysis, we'll expect you to get your hands dirty in the lab, too. Most of your time will be spent on new product introductions, typically with aggressive timetables.
The bottom line is that our engineers are very bright people. Most importantly their 'brightness' is demonstrated by the special things that each engineer has done that show us their own unique 'Evidence of Excellence' in their education or career. We would love to hear about your 'Evidence of Excellence', and to learn more about why a career at Bose excites you!
Bose Develops Many Well-Known Products, and much more... Home Entertainment Division develops products such as the iPod SoundDock, Wave Radio and LifeStyle Home Theater systems. Bose is also a leader in the design of Automotive Sound Systems (one in ten cars has sound by Bose), as well as products for Musicians, Pilots and the Military. We also conduct extensive research in many leading edge technical areas that might surprise you, such as our novel automotive suspension system.
The Supervisor of Evaluation/Continuing Engineering will have a dual role within the Electronic Product Design Department. The Engineers on the team will spend approximately equal amounts of effort on each function (Evaluation and Continuing) as the needs arise within the department.
A) The Supervisor will guide the Continuing/Evaluation Engineers as they:
1) Develop design changes to current products that will implement the newer integrated circuits or component technologies as they become feasible or necessary for the product.
2) Solve problems observed in the customers application of the product.
3) Solve problems that have been observed during the manufacturing process.
4) Strive to become very familiar with the broad range of products and their functional operation.
B) The Supervisor will work with each Project Engineer to develop appropriate assignments that will provide the best learning opportunities for the Engineer while utilizing the skills already acquired and meeting the needs of each new product being developed.
1) The Continuing/Evaluation Engineers will join a specific electrical design team during the prototype evaluation phase of each Design prototype cycle. A project will typically use three design prototype cycles, an Alpha build and a Beta build prior to beginning Mass production. The Engineer will be given responsibility to analyze the performance of a specific subsection of an electronic product design and to propose/ implement design changes that arise from the investigations. The engineer will learn how to evaluate a design at a level of competence that will allow us to confidently proceed to mass production of hundreds of thousands of units annually. These units will appear in the homes of friends and families.
C) The Supervisor will guide Continuing/Evaluation Engineers in performing experiments, analyze and present results to aid in our understanding of specific phenomena as they may impact our future designs of new products.
Skills
Bose Responsibilities and Requirements for Hardware Design Engineers: You'll be responsible for working in a group which performs advanced development and does system architecture of Bose home entertainment products. You will be expected to explore new technologies and product concepts and will architect products such as the Lifestyle music system and Wave products.
Ideally you'll have knowledge of how CD, DVD and music storage products are engineered. The Home Entertainment Division is comprised of engineers who have a detailed understanding of hardware engineering and systems with embedded software.
You should have 12+ years of experience as a designer of systems with analog, digital, and embedded software content. Here's the specifics of what we need to see in your work experience:
Strong Analog hardware design experience in one or more of the following areas:
o Discrete component, board level Analog design
o Mixed Signal IC Design
o Power Supply Design (linear or switch-mode)
o Audio Amplifier Design
o Audio/Video Matrix Switches
o AM/FM/DAB Radio Design
o Frequency-hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) Design
o Display Design (LCD, LED)
o Infrared Design
o RF Design (24MHz to5.8GHz)
Familiarity with Analog design/simulation, and signal processing tools such as SPICE or MATLAB
Solid Digital hardware design experience, sufficient to complement analog skills.
Digital skills should include at least one of:
o Microprocessor-based Embedded Systems Design
o FPGA Design
o Hardware Design which indicates your knowledge of how CD, DVD and music storage products are engineered
Knowledge of high volume, consumer electronics product development is preferred but not a hard requirement
Experience with the design of products for EMI, UL, FCC or CSA compliance is preferred but not a hard requirement
Familiarity with high volume product development and meeting EMI, U/L, FCC,CSA, etc. is a plus.
Education
