As Component Engineer you will have the responsibility for identifying, qualifying, documenting and releasing cost effective components from a variety of commodities for Palm's smartphone line of products. In this fast paced and dynamic organization it will be necessary for you to drive the component selection process and perform your work in a consultative manner as the subject matter expert.- Regularly maintain and update Engineer Bill of Materials. - Review Engineering change orders and update BOM's as necessary. - Coordinate BOM management with all departments outside of Engineering. - Work with operations and purchasing to coordinate activities. - Coordinates change management tasks with suppliers. - Project team support across commodities as the resident component expert- Documenting and releasing all component specifications- Aligning Component Engineering Process across engineering and operations- Part number alignment, Component vendor Qualification, Component Substitution, AVL standard parts definitions - Support Design Engineering on NPI & Sustaining products - on part selection and qualification- Review Product (component) Change Notice from component vendors and manage the impact by working with Engineering & Manufacturing Management.- Support Contract Manufacturers and ODMs for New Products & Sustaining products.- BSEE/MSEE or equivalent required - 7+ years experience in component engineering practice including project leadership responsibility.- 7+ years experience in manufacturing engineering processes, engineering change management, product lifecycle systems, and PCBA design for manufacturability- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral- Knowledge of Product Governance and Compliance (Agile) & ROHS Compliance Management required.- Good Working knowledge in Electronic manufacturing- Proven track record of Component Engineering role in New Product Introduction and sustaining volume production. - Team player, hands-on attitude self motivated ability to work with little supervision.
