Chief Patent Counsel - Finisar Corporation

KEY JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for: development and implementation of overall company intellectual property strategy; patent prosecution management; in and out licensing negotiation and management; intellectual property litigation management; acquisition intellectual property due diligence; and budgeting. Reports to General Counsel.

The ideal candidate will have a strong business background and an interest in technology as well as a track record of patent prosecution. This individual will be registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office ( USPTO) and be comfortable working with major companies and their latest technologies.







SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:



Background in engineering



Experience in patent prosecution and litigation as well as intellectual property portfolio management and licensing.



Experience as a Patent Attorney registered with the United States Patent Office



Patent Prosecution experience



Examples of published applications or patents



Computer skills including Microsoft Office and Access



US law degree (J.D. or L.L.B.), admission to practice law in at least one US state, and patent practice registration with the USPTO.



Knowledge of  telecommunication technologies and standards a plus



Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to become an integral part of legal, technical, and business teams



Excellent judgment and ability to execute and deliver in a rapid, fast-paced business environment; perform under pressure



Highly motivated with desire to deliver outstanding professional work product





Work independently with minimal supervision and effectively contribute as a team player on legal, technical, and business teams





Possess superior writing and oral communication skills



Demonstrated creativity and success in strategizing, structuring, and obtaining robust IP specific to an area of technology or product, which includes offensive and defensive patent protection





Possess diverse IP knowledge with heavy practical experience in high technology



Demonstrated ability to understand  technology, with ability to apply it to an R&D effort with strong client interaction
