CENTRAL OFFICE TECHNICIANS (TEMPORARY) - NEW HAMPSHIRE

Central Office Technicians install and maintain residence and business telephone service from Company Central Offices to the customer location.  They must be knowledgeable in and abide by all National Electrical Safety Codes and Company Safety Practices. The size of the office and work group varies depending on location. General Duties Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:  A.  Operate time-sharing computer terminal and/or cathode ray tube (CRT) for computer inquiry and updating. B.  Connect, disconnect, remove, rearrange, and maintain wires connecting customers’ lines with Central Office equipment.  C. Analyze defects, test, repair and maintain telephone switching circuits and equipment by using a voltmeter, resistance meter, watt meter, capacity meter, oscilloscope, events per time meters, etc. D. Analyze and interpret service orders, circuit diagrams, test results via SARTS (Switched Access Remote Test systems) and manual references. E.  Install, repair, and adjust switches, relays and amplifiers using pliers, screwdrivers, soldering iron and special test equipment and/or associated Switched Access Remote Test Systems. F.  Keep detailed record of work activities and appropriate maintenance log. G. Become familiar with Company Installation and Maintenance work flows. H. May work in a room with others doing similar work.  May be required to work alone. I.  Will work in a room which has rows of equipment and narrow aisles. J.  May work in a room which is air-conditioned to maintain equipment heat levels. K.  Will wear head set while performing some job tasks. L.  Will spend part of the time working at desk or workstation. M. May work in areas with continuous equipment noise. N. May be required to report to different locations. O. The Employee may need to perform additional duties and tasks as required by the Company.  At certain locations, Central Office Technicians may be required to do some/or all of the following:A.  May be required to pull wires and move test equipment and coils of wire weighing up to 60 pounds. B.  Perform routine equipment maintenance such as inspecting, cleaning, testing and lubricating equipment. C. May be required to climb ladders and work with test equipment.  Basic Qualifications A.  Tests – Results obtained in standard tests for this position must meet minimum requirements established by the Company, in accordance with Company policy. B.  Physical Requirements  - Medical Department evaluation & ability to perceive differences in wire and cable colors is required. C. Job Performance and Attendance Record – Satisfactory performance rating & attendance punctuality record in present job.  D. Tours - May be required to work day, evening or night shifts and overtime, emergency call-outs, weekends and holidays as assigned.  Hours to be worked are determined by seniority, job requirements and qualifications.  May be required to report to different locations. E.  Driver’s License Information – The employee must have state driver’s license, which is valid in the state where work is performed.  (See Attachment A.)  A satisfactory driving record is also required and a Company Driver’s License may be necessary. F.  Security Investigation Information - Must meet the standards of a Security Investigation.  Training There will be an initial classroom training of 2-3 weeks. Further extensive classroom training may be necessary depending on the particular assignment. Training conducted at a centralized facility which may require travel and/or overnight stays.Previous work experience will be considered in the application. This includes satisfactory work experience in a craft job involving the repair and maintenance of switching equipment, and/or satisfactory work experience in a skilled or semi-skilled craft job, and/or satisfactory work experience, training and/or schooling in the electrical or electronics field.FairPoint is an equal opportunity employer and supports workforce diversity M/F/D/V.
