Business Development Manager - Alternative Energy Segment (reports to Director Strategy and Marketing)

National Semiconductor is entering the photovoltaic market with new technology designed to increase the effectiveness of solar panels under variable light conditions. National's SolarMagic™ technology recoups up to 50 percent of the lost energy, dramatically improving the economics in shaded and other real-world conditions. The SolarMagic technology maximizes the energy output of each solar panel, compensating for much of the energy lost due to shadows from tree branches or power lines, dust and debris, and panel-to-panel mismatch. Headquartered in Santa Clara, Calif., National reported sales of $1.89 billion for fiscal 2008 which ended May 25, 2008.

This role would suit a self-motivated, results-oriented individual who is comfortable in an entrepreneurial environment, capable of driving and coordinating internal stakeholders at all levels of the organization. The ideal candidate is someone familiar with the solar/alternative energy eco system, a strategic thinker capable of developing strong relationships at all level with internal and external stakeholders. To succeed in this role the candidate will possess a combination of big-picture vision and creativity with detail-oriented execution skills and business savvy.

Responsibilities would inlude -Defining and implementing market penetration and customer engagement strategies supporting National's thrust into the solar/alternative energy market. Identifying and establishing external partnerships and alliances with key customers, industry groups, 3rd party companies and universities. Developing and implementing strategies for expanding and protecting NSC's position through a comprehensive IP portfolio. Identifying key market and technology trends and defining opportunities for new innovative architectures and system solutions. Identifying investment opportunities.

The ideal candidate would have the following qualifications -7+ years relevant work experience, contributing at a senior-level, with system expertise in the energy industry (ideally solar).
A demonstrated understanding of industry players and market dynamics.
Expertise at the system level in the solar energy market.
Business expertise in developing emerging businesses.
A BSEE or equivalent is highly desireable.
