Applications Engineer/Scientist
Key tasks and responsibilities
Support internal and external customers in developing skills and applications for LEAP (local electrode atom probe) microscopy; preparation and presentation of results, and/or techniques to support Imago Research Department requirements for internal and external customers
Develop new areas of application in accordance with the applicant’s area of expertise, for the LEAP microscope.
All aspects of problem solving for customers using local electrode atom probe analysis including experiment design, innovative specimen design and fabrication, data collection, data analysis, communication and collaborative publications of results.
Duties consist of 30%-60% domestic and international travel to support current and future Imago customers where applicant will be responsible for maximizing the utility of the LEAP microscope with respect to the specific requirements of the customer’s research. Significant time may be spent living near the customer site and developing professional relationships while providing support. Specific responsibilities at the customer site include maximizing productivity, data generation, and applications support combined with good feedback to the Imago factory on tool performance, areas for improvement and applications insight. Additional duties at the customer site may include instrument qualification, maintenance and procedural documentation.
Skills and attributes
Demonstrated competence in one or more of the following areas: metallurgy, magnetic materials, semiconductors.
Experience with using and maintaining/aligning/set-up of high vacuum instruments (electron beam, ion beam, X-ray, etc.)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, proficiency in foreign languages a plus.
Experience requirement
MS or PhD in Materials Science/Engineering (or other degree or degree level with equivalent experience). Experience with atom probe microscopy desired but not required. Experience with microscopy methods and/or three-dimensional visualization and modeling software a plus.
