YOUTH LITERACY PROGRAM COORDINATOR
Queens Library has been the highest circulating library in the U.S. for more than a decade, serving a population of 2 million in one of the nation's most ethnically diverse counties. The Queens Library system consists of 62 community libraries and a Central/Corporate Library. The Queens system is well recognized for its innovative advances in technology, community programs and services.
The Queens Library invites you to join their dynamic Adult Learning Program department for an exciting position as a Youth Literacy Program Coordinator. This individual will get the opportunity to learn our business in an innovative, professional and diverse environment. This position will be responsible for supporting the Queens Library’s mission by ensuring that Youth Literacy Project and programs are provided to our customers.
The Youth Literacy Program Coordinator will be responsible for managing all aspects of the Youth Literacy Project (YLP) including: recruitment, supervision and training of YLP staff. This position will be responsible for coordinating classes and registration schedules; substitutes to teach class when necessary; plans and implements student recruitment; ensures that there are adequate supplies, classroom space, etc and revises/augments the curriculum developed. This position will oversees data collection; ensures files and statistics are accurate; conducts regular meetings with Youth Literacy Project staff and oversees assessment ensuring that all students are pre and post tested in a timely manner. This position will be responsible for coordinating selection and distribution of books, materials and equipment to all YLP sites; collaborating with other libraries and youth literacy providers; collaborating with QL YA staff on enhancement activities for youth; assists in preparation of grants, reports, proposals and ensures that deadlines are met.
* This is a Grant Funded position.*
The schedule for this position will include Saturdays and evenings as required.
This is an excellent opportunity for an individual seeking a position where they can learn, grow and be part of a dynamic team. Qualified candidates must have a Masters Degree in Education (Literacy or TESOL) or related field is preferred. More than two years experience in administration of adult education program is required. Must have knowledge of current trends in literacy and computer-aided instruction. Must have experience working with young adults age 16-24. Knowledge of ASISTS Database and Standardized Assessment tools (TABE) for literacy preferred. Ability to complete multiple projects with competing deadlines. Excellent organization, supervision and communication skills. Ability to work flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, as appropriate to a public service position. Must have excellent computer skills.
