Web Applications & Database Developer

We are currently seeking a Web Applications and Database Developer to join our team. In this position, major duties include but are not limited to: Performing requirements gathering and analysis; analyzing and designing project plans.Maintaining up-to-date knowledge in software development technologies; investigating new platforms and technologies; maintaining up-to-date knowledge in web application, sql and site security.Designing and implementing web pages (html) or internal and external software applications with a web browser interface - including surveys, conferencing software, administrative software, resource management software, data management software, reporting software in direct response to the needs of NBME staff and governance.Documenting processes and procedures. Advising and making decisions about defining and implementing development standards.Using knowledge of relational databases and SQL administration, building and maintaining complex SQL Databases for applications; creating, deleting and updating databases; writing scripts and procedures for applications; performing final testing and ensuring ultimate quality control for all aspects of databases, scripts and procedures. The major deliverables of the Web Applications and Database Developer are to: Design web pages, surveys and custom applications for other units.Troubleshoot and update existing systems or pages.Handles ad hoc and emergency situations (i.e., unscheduled, high priority projects; server crashes, etc.)Create and/or maintainsweb parts on the SharePoint portal; provide user support for SharePoint portal libraries, sites, pages, and other functions.Provide web-type support for non-web based projects (i.e., html menu and autorun on USMLE cd) as assigned.Participate in Internet team for web and portal application design, application and server maintenance and application, server and customer support.Document processes and procedures using standards developed for the team; contribute to the update of these standards.Follow best practices for style, usability and security. Candidates for the Web Applications and Database Developer role must possess the following qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.The ability and desire to provide excellent cutomer service to employees and units at the National Board of Medical Examiners.Excellent and positive communication skills, with the ability to fully understand customer needs and translate technical information for a non-technical audience.Intermediate to Advanced programming skills (VB, OOP, .NET Framework) including but not limited to readable and maintainable code. Significant experience with HTML, ASP, CSS, Javascript, VBScript.Project Planning and Management skills; experience managing full software development life-cycle.Superb docuemtnation skills.A wide degree of creativity.The ability to take an assignment and complete it independently.Thorough understanding of Structured Query Language (SQL), Relational Database Concepts and Normalization, creating Stored Procedures in SQL and Basic MS SQL Server Administration.Knowledge of ISS and web server adminsitration.Experience with SharePoint Portal Server and WSS.Thorough knowledge of web browser incompatibilities and limitations, security issues associated with web-based software, and usability issues and best practices. 5 or more years experience with Classic ASP.3 or more years experience with ASP.net.5 or more years experience with HTML/XHTML.3 or more years experience with SQL Server DB Design and Development.3 or more years wxperience with JavaScript.2 or more years experience with CSS 2.1.
