Due to Bridgepoint Education’s explosive growth and success with its leading-edge educational format, the position of Vice President of Governmental Affairs has been newly created.  We are looking for an experienced Vice President of Government Affairs who will work closely with the CEO and other Senior Officers of the Executive Team in the design and implementation of Bridgepoint Education’s governmental relations agenda and plans. This position will be an integral part of the Executive Team and will apply knowledge and an experienced background to the development of the organization.

 

Reporting to the CEO, the Vice President of Governmental Affairs will have regular interaction with the Senior and Executive Management Teams and additional departments for Bridgepoint Education and its subsidiaries.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Office of Government Affairs works with Bridgepoint Education, and it’s subsidiaries: Ashford University and University of the Rockies to advance our mission by:

 developing and implementing strategies for the University’s coordinated response to challenges, threats, and opportunities related to federal, state and local legislation and government activitiescoordinating the development of University programs and cross-university partnerships that have the potential for significant government/agency fundingpromote Bridgepoint Education’s image/relations with government officials and the community through targeted communications, special events, and publicationsmanagement of activities that promote interactions between Bridgepoint Education, its subsidiary Universities, the legislative, executive branches of California / Colorado / Iowa state government(s) and the federal government

 

S/he will also be responsible for the strategic, tactical and regulatory interactions among Bridgepoint Education and its subsidiary Universities, the various governmental bodies and Bridgepoint Education and its subsidiary Universities’ governmental relations consulting firms.



QUALIFICATIONS



Applicants for this position must possess:

· Bachelor’s degree in a related field

· Have 8 - 10 years of increasingly responsible involvement with state and/or federal government and agencies 

· Must have a demonstrated ability to work independently and to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities, exceptional leadership, oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, a perceptive attention to detail and the ability to handle confidential information discreetly

· Demonstrated experience with research universities, business and industry relations, and public policy advocacy

· Five (5) years previous management experience, excellent planning, problem-solving, organizational, and project management skills

· Ability to inspire and build effective work relationships among diverse personnel from government officials, university faculty/staff and the community

Preference will be given to candidates who also exhibit the following:

· Master’s Degree in a related field

· The ideal candidate will have a substantial background in identifying and nurturing a network of governmental relations contacts within relevant Higher Education areas and develop a system of regular communication
