The State Health Reform Assistance Network is a grant funded project of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The objective of the program is to provide 10 selected states with the technical assistance resources they need to effectively implement the coverage expansion provisions of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The Princeton team is responsible for directing and coordinating technical assistance to states, which will be provided by an array of health policy experts in organizations across the country.
The research assistant will assist the program director and deputy director in the day-to-day management of the project and the research necessary to help states achieve their coverage expansion goals.
The responsibilities of the research assistant may include:
? Conducting background research about the selected states.
? Tracking current health policy events (e.g., legislation, regulations, politics, etc.) in selected states.
? Analyzing ACA implementation resources in states outside the program and identifying opportunities for cross-state learning.
? Developing meeting agendas and presentations for the program director and deputy.
? Conducting literature searches and other research requested by selected states.
? Assisting the director and deputy in identifying selected states' technical assistance needs and connecting those states with the appropriate technical assistance providers.
? Formatting state workplans and tracking state progress on the specific activities in those plans.
? Tracking the activities of expert technical assistance providers in each of the selected states.
? Managing basic online project management collaboration website(s) to be used by the Princeton team, technical assistance providers and states.
The research assistant will report to Chad Shearer, Deputy Director, State Health Reform Assistance Network.
The candidate must have a demonstrated interest in health care and/or public policy. Basic understanding of the coverage expansion approach and state implementation of the Affordable Care Act is preferred. Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and present findings in easily digestible pieces. Strong organizational skills, including attention to detail in research and record-keeping. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (word, excel, outlook).
The finalist will be required to successfully pass a background check.
Previous research background in health care or health policy (ideally related to health insurance or public coverage programs). Understanding of state government structures and politics. Basic knowledge of google sites or other web content management system(s).
