Student Support Advisor

Position Summary:
This position is responsible for advising students on, and coordinating/managing resolution of, financial aid, academic, and service-related issues. Coordinates the student finance process by interviewing students, determining eligibility, ensuring all paperwork is completed and forwarding to e-processing. Coordinates the academic advisement process by meeting with students and assisting in course/program selection and maintaining accurate records requirements. Provides excellent customer service to students and works to overcome student issues/problems to promote student success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Student Finance: 1. Interviews students applying for financial aid and determines eligibility for assistance with higher education tuition obligations.
2. Assists students with FAFSA completion and ensures that all paperwork is completed correctly; forwards completed paperwork to e-processing center.
3. Facilitates entrance and exit interview packets for DVUC student population and Perkins and Stafford loan recipients.
4. Reviews accounts of returning and transfer students intending to re-enroll and prepares student account audit requests.
5. Coordinates with the appropriate campus in identifying veterans and transmits benefits certification information for each term.
6. Prepares statements regarding enrollment, tuition, book charges and agency billing.
7. Counsels students with high balance or delinquent accounts and determines if additional financing is needed.
8. Performs data entry including entering comments, entrance and exit counseling dates, and Perkins paperwork received dates.
9. Measured by, and held accountable to, five key metrics: Start Rate, Persistence/Retention, Accounts Receivable, Revenue per Student, and Customer Service/Satisfaction.
Academic Advisement: 10. Assists students in selecting a program and provides guidance and information regarding course selections, delivery formats and site options available.
11. Assists students/families in developing a financial and academic plan to support student success at DeVry University.
12. Works closely with Admissions, Academics, the Registrar’s office, and various other departments in order to assist students with their financing and advising needs.
13. Works with faculty and staff to identify students having academic problems, including attendance issues, and strives to overcome these issues to promote student success and retention; coordinates discipline issues with student services.
Records/Registrarial: 14. Monitors curriculum records and maintains student records and files, including processing course waivers/exemptions and use/review of Degree Navigator and its associated reports.
15. Manage the offer and acceptance process for admissions.
16. Participates in student registration activities and development activities designed to promote student awareness, retention and success.
17. Possesses knowledge of all applicable policies, procedures, regulations and laws, including ADA compliance and International student paperwork.
18. Manage transcript evaluations, including performing informal transfer credit evaluations.
General Support: 19. Serve as a student advocate when assisting with the resolution of student problems.
20. Conducts new student orientation presentations regarding accelerated and online course delivery.
21. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills:
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred. One to five years related financial/academic advising and/or training experience preferred. PC skills in Microsoft Office, Internet applications and database software. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be a self-starter with the ability to multi-task.
