Student Advisor - New Students
Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Student Services, the New Student Coordinator is accountable for ensuring that newly admitted students are registered in accordance with the Argosy University New Student Policy. The New Student Coordinator serves as the primary point of contact for all new and transfer students. Incumbent must assure that the EDMC philosophy: quality services to clients; development, growth, involvement, and recognition of employees; sound economic principles; and environment which is conducive to innovation, positive thinking and expansion - is considered in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of this position.
Key Job Elements:
1. Act as primary point of contact to newly enrolled students. Be an advocate for student well-being, and aid in the school adjustment progress. This includes meeting with individual as well as small groups of students on an ongoing basis. In order to positively impact student matriculation and persistence, actively work with Admissions, Academic Advisors and Registrar to ensure that newly admitted students and transfer students are contacted and registered within one week of acceptance (or within the timeframe designated by the Campus President).
2. Be primary advisor to new/incoming students concerning scheduling, attendance, and academic progress and curriculum issues.
3. Inform and help new students access all available services. Apprise students of housing options, staying current with financial obligations, and direct students to Counseling when deemed necessary. Ensure all new and transfer students are provided with appropriate information. Resources and contacts regarding;
• Financial Aid or Payment Arrangements
• Online and blended courses
• Textbooks
• Syllabi
• New Student Orientation
4. Inform and help new students access all available services. Contact all new transfer students via phone and email; mail a welcome kit to all new and transfer students; arrange for each student to attend a new student orientation; monitor the class attendance of all new and transfer students until census date; participate or offer input in weekly New Student Review Meetings if needed. Assist in the coordination and implementation of New Student Orientations.
5. Become familiar with international student issues and assist in the advising of new international students.
5. Participate in monthly Student Service teleconferences and departmental meetings as scheduled. Participate in committee meetings as assigned by the Director of Student Services.

Job Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
1. Knowledge:
a) Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Advising, or related field. Equivalent experience could be considered as substitute for education requirements.
b) Two years experience career counseling or industry-related position, and at least one year experience in student advising or field-related environment
2. Skills:
a) Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including persuasive abilities, and the ability to build successful relationships with student populations.
b) Exceptional customer service, interpersonal and organizational skills
c) Strong computer and analytical skills.
3. Abilities:
a) Ability to work effectively under pressure and to meet frequently occurring deadlines.
b) Work effectively as either a leader or a team member to insure that departmental goals are met.
c) Ability to understand student development issues in post-secondary education
d) Ability to work independently and good time management skills
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate professionally in person, over the telephone, through email and other electronic means, move about the office or school, handle various types of media and equipment, and visually or otherwise identify, observe and assess. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 10 pounds unless otherwise specified in the job description.
