Sr. Research Analyst, Center for Workforce Studies (HR1525)

The Sr. Research Analyst will serve as lead investigator on the physician distribution study, which includes leading a cross-divisional team that will conduct 5-10 site visits to academic medical centers to identify best practices in providing care to undeserved areas, preparing case studies featuring various approaches to caring for underserved populations, identifying strategies for increasing physician volunteer efforts in underserved communities, and analyzing existing federal and state loan repayment programs designed to encourage practice in underserved areas and identify best practices for encouraging physicians to locate practices in rural and other underserved areas. The incumbent will also assist on other workforce studies as assigned in areas such as primary care, general surgery workforce supply, productivity analysis, use of non-physician clinicians, and other specialty specific research contracts. Assist Center Director and Director, Workforce Research with other related research activities such as preparing summaries, charts, tables, resource documents and reports for internal and external dissemination; participating in team discussions on workforce research agenda and priorities; and presenting findings at AAMC and other professional meetings. Qualifications: Master’s degree in public health, public policy, economics or sociology, including extensive coursework/training in research methods, basic statistics, qualitative research, data analysis and healthcare policy/management. 5-7 years of health services research experience, particularly qualitative research, including focus groups and structured interviews Experience with designing and completing a research study, from identifying the initial research questions to the analysis and publication of the results. Strong writing skills and research writing experience, such as peer-review publications or other scholarly research papers Basic knowledge of statistics and quantitative research methods Strong project management experience. Experience conducting focus groups, structured interviews, and/or site visits. Knowledge of physician distribution, primary care, rural health issues and underserved populations preferred but not required. Experience interacting with senior executives of large organizations, preferably health care related. Ability to handle multiple tasks of different nature/complexity simultaneously Comfort using statistical packages (SPSS and/or SAS)
