Senior Manager

Patent Resources Group (PRG) was founded in 1969 by Professor Irving Kayton.  The company has taught patent law and related courses to 40,000 patent attorneys, agents, engineers, and scientists since then.  Approximately 3,000 professionals attend PRG programs every year.  PRG provides courses and publications in all aspects of patent practice, in both print and electronic formats, for professionals at all levels of experience.  The company conducts patent training programs in major cities and destinations, over the Internet, and on-site at companies and law firms.  Our customers are located on every continent.

PRG’s headquarters are located in Charlottesville, VA and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Landon IP, Inc., which is headquartered in Alexandria, VA and has an office in Southfield, MI.  Landon IP is the global leader in professional patent searching, analysis, information retrieval and training, with over 160 employees. 

Patent Resources Group is currently seeking a business-development focused senior level manager to contribute strong leadership to the company.  The ideal candidate will have an entrepreneurial mindset and be able to effectively develop and direct short and long-term strategic-planning, as well as manage the day-to-day operations of the company. 

Responsibilities include:

§ Spearhead curriculum development including interacting with faculty members to identify opportunities for new courses and target existing courses for updating.  This includes coordination and leadership of the Academic Development Team and Advisory Board. 

 

§ Lead the expansion of current product lines and development of new products.  This includes identifying new markets for growth of the brand, as well as identifying needs in the current markets and developing products to meet those needs. 

 

§ Strengthen and build relationships with current and new customers.  This includes evaluating our current revenue models in order to identify and suggest new and different ways to structure the relationship with our customers. 

 

§ Strengthen and build strong relationships with our talented and successful faculty; while continuing to identify potential new faculty members and introducing them to PRG.  This includes learning and understanding their areas of specialty and looking for ways to maximize the benefits they receive through their association with PRG and vice versa.  

 

§ Oversee coordination and management of all programs and events, including scheduling, site selection and event planning.

 

§ Work closely with marketing and PR firms to assist with direction and support of marketing efforts. 

 

§ Supervision and management of PRG staff (9 full-time and 2 part-time).

 

Required Experience and Knowledge:

 A proactive individual who functions well in an action-focused environment Ability to make quick decisions using sound judgment8 to 10 years of experience managing a group, division or business unit MBA degree preferredAbility to travel approximately 30%  Experience with adult continuing education a plus
