School Improvement Specialist

Primary Purpose:
The School Improvement Specialist will govern and lead the school within a school academy by building leadership capacity. They will guide the campus through the School Improvement Process with the responsibilities of implementing the School Improvement Process requirements set forth by NCLB. They will assist in the coordination of the revising and implement of the Campus Improvement Plan to increase student performance and participation on all state assessments and increase graduation rate.Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Master’s degree in Education from an accredited college/university with a background in Curriculum and Instruction; Educational Administration; or Other Equivalent Educational Field.
Valid Texas Teacher Certification.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of Accountability Standards (Performance Based Monitoring, School Improvement, and NCLB Programs)
Knowledge of Standards (AYP, AEIS)
Knowledge of Site Based Decision Making
Knowledge of the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Campus Improvement Plan process
Extensive knowledge of the TEKS
Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Strong consultation skills for conferencing with staff
Experience:
Three years secondary campus level experience
Experience working with at risk population
Demonstrated experience of knowledge of school improvementMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Program Effectiveness
1. Work with the Technical Assistance Provider, District, and Campus level administrators to develop a plan for SIP schools as required under NCLB.
2. Development/Coordination of the School Improvement Binder.
3. Facilitate the campus administration in prioritizing the recommendations and next steps of the SIRC Campus Improvement Needs Assessment (CINA) into a working Campus Improvement Plan (CIP) with definitive timeline and evaluation commitments.
4. Provide technical assistance with the development of the CIP to ensure compliance with state and federal program & fiscal requirements.
5. Collaborate with school personnel, the Site-Based Decision Making Committee (SBDM) and other pertinent stakeholders in creating and implementing the CIP.
6. Assist in ensuring that the campus function within the CIP with clear strategies and goals based on best available data.
7. Train the school personnel in the use of disaggregation of data and the use of benchmarking as an internal progress assessment of the CIP goals.
8. Implement timelines and effectiveness checks of the working CIP.
9. Work with the district for the investment in scientific based resources that target CIP goals.
10. Provide training in assessment, instruction and strategies.
11. Advise on strategies to improve student attendance.
12. Facilitate teacher collaboration in vertical and horizontal alignment of instruction. Assist in mentorship of staff and participate in walk through analysis of teaching proficiency.
13. Assist with coordination of Performance Based Monitoring Core Team to analyze data and reporting in program areas of SPED, ESL, NCLB, and CATE.
14. Assist in the analysis of student performance data to make recommendations and decisions on strategic initiatives needed to meet Adequate Yearly Progress and State Accountability.
15. Initiate activities to increase parental and community involvement.
16. Provide on going follow up with Technical Assistance Providers assigned to each campus.
17. Assist in the audit of on-going practices and submissions of various entities as necessary to ensure proper documentation for all accountability and reporting areas.
18. Assist in the compilation and maintenance of all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required for all accountability and reporting areas.
19. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in all areas.
20. Report on a weekly basis of activities to central level supervision.
21. Attend staff development and training as scheduled throughout the school year.Institution Effectiveness
