Research Associate

Classroom,Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation that develops workplace-based computer simulations and extensive instructional materials used by middle and high school students to improve essential literacy and mathematics skills.  Our programs offer high-interest activities that encourage critical thinking, problem solving and collaborative learning and are implemented in a variety of instructional settings including summer and after school classes.

 

We are seeking a part-time Research Associate to assist in evaluating our school year and summer school programs as those operate in multiple districts.  This is a three-day per week position, with benefits, with the opportunity to make important contributions to our organization.  The Associate will have principal responsibility for working with program administrators and teachers to facilitate data collection, and for the collection, management and analysis of data related to multiple evaluation projects.  Report writing is another key task.  The Research Associate will work closely with staff of other Classroom, Inc. teams to understand program operations at particular sites, and to disseminate research information as requested.  The Associate also will assist in the conduct of other research projects.

 

Principal Responsibilities

 

The Research Associate will be expected to: 

  create and maintain data entry files;

  train and supervise data entry interns; 

  maintain quality control of data—routinely work with data entry personnel to accomplish this;

  manage data provided by districts and Classroom, Inc.—ensure comprehensive data management across multiple projects;

  trouble shoot data management and data entry files for multiple projects, as needed;

  troubleshoot with Classroom, Inc. and district personnel regarding district-provided data;

  perform quantitative and qualitative data analyses (The primary analyses will be quantitative, but qualitative analyses, including content analysis and coding of qualitative data, also will be required.);

  document the research process for specific projects;

  access relevant library resources;

  refine and develop data collection instruments;

  collect data via online and hard copy surveys;

  contact educators and site visitors, as necessary, to facilitate data collection;

  coordinate data collection with external research collaborators; and

  write reports. Minimum Qualifications 

Graduate level coursework and experience in social science or education research with experience in the conduct and analysis of field research.  Bachelor’s degree in social science,education, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.  We are seeking a professional with solid social science research skills (at least three years experience) and facility with Excel, Word and SPSS software. Strong written and oral communication, collaboration, data management and organizational skills sought; SPSS fluency required.  Previous work with school and district administrators and teachers, interest in educational research and program evaluation a plus.
