Release Engineer / BuildMaster

Position Summary:

As a full-time member of our in-house software development team in San Diego, you will be responsible for managing software builds and releases. This position reports to the Software Development Manager.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Packaging of twice-weekly software releases to be pushed into our production environments. Developing release procedures and scripts, installation packages and releases, merging code trees, creating release notes, validating compliance certifications and more. Works closely with both Quality Assurance and software development to ensure that the final releases are up to organizational standards.

Requirements: 3 to 5 years of experience in a release engineer or BuildMaster role, or in a position with similar skill sets and responsibilitiesStrong knowledge of web technologies and application systemsSolid understanding of x/LAMP or similar web development stacksProficient with source code control systems (subversion preferred), merging, branching, check-in/out, promotions/demotions, and similar conceptsAbility to develop release packages, write documentation and installation scriptsProficient in Unix shell scripting and using the Unix operating environmentProficient with database backups/restores, configuration of application-layer systems (Apache preferred) and server-side processes and conceptsFamiliarity with Mantis or similar issue tracking systems Understands multi-level release environments and structuresFamiliarity with change management systems and processesAnalytical, creative, adaptable, resourceful, innovative and imaginativeStrong problem-solving skills required, and ability to follow through to completionAbility to work well in a diverse and distributed team environmentCustomer focus, as some tasks will require after-hours installationsBachelor’s degree preferred
