Regional International Student Advisor Coord. (RIC)

This position is full time. Regional ISA Coordinators support corporate-wide international student initiatives as detailed in the Key Job Elements that follow. Regional ISA Coordinators may work independently or be assigned to operating units as halftime International Student Advisors.

KEY JOB ELEMENTS

RICs will support EDMC’s established start rate goals for new international nonimmigrant students and the persistence rate goals for continuing international students through the delivery of technical assistance to the International Student Advisors (ISAs) in the assigned regions. This technical assistance will include the following:

1) Host monthly, training-related, conference calls for ISAs from regionally assigned schools.

2) In advance of monthly conference calls, collect agenda items, plan preliminary agenda, and set final agenda in cooperation with the AVP of Regulatory Affairs and Compliance – International Office.

3) Contribute to agenda preparation of quarterly national ISA conference calls, hosted by the AVP of Regulatory Affairs and Compliance – International Office.

4) Serve as regional Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) resource and field questions from ISAs within the specified region via the ISA List Serv and via telephone.

5) Provide Oversight and Guidance to SEVIS Recertification Process (every two years), including execution of full campus audit of all nonimmigrant student files in anticipation of SEVIS auditor’s review.

6) Provide on-going content-specific information for national ISA Intranet site.

7) Serve on a quarterly rotational basis as contributors to Business Practices Committee.

8) Travel and provide on-ground over all institutional training, either to individual schools, or in a regional group format, as assigned, and likewise temporarily support campus locations, as needed, when the Designated School Official is absent for an extended period.

9) Liaison with assigned schools regarding The Odyssey Program (study abroad initiatives) and provide support, as assigned.

10) Full participation in on-going technical professional development activities sponsored by NAFSA: Association of International Educators.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

1) Must have a minimum of one year of experience as an ISA within an EDMC operating unit.

The ISA position within EDMC requires:

• A bachelor’s degree; within the areas of counseling, social work, international/multicultural affairs preferred;

• A minimum of one year of experience maintaining student records in the Student and Exchange Visitors Information System (SEVIS).

• A minimum of one year of experience in international student advising in a post-secondary setting.

• Excellent interpersonal skills on both an individual and group basis.

• Ability to interact with outside agencies, educational professionals, and professional associations.

2) Must maintain a minimum 3.0 rating on annual Performance Planning and Appraisal Review. (Good competent performance; meets standard performance expectations for this job. The level of performance most often achieved by an experienced, well-trained employee.)

3) Must annually complete pass International Specific Compliance and Frequently Asked Questions Examination.

4) Must demonstrate strong expertise in F-1 and M-1 nonimmigrant student matters. This expertise must include practical and on-going experience with the proper execution of all immigration forms necessary for nonimmigrant admission, continued attendance, and participation in educationally-related and economic necessity employment work programs, as well as the ability to provide regulatory guidance, technical assistance and counseling to ISAs regarding maintenance of status, acquisition and maintenance of practical training, economic necessity employment, reinstatement, school transfer, change of level, taxes, and social security.

5) Must maintain a working knowledge of the Student and Exchange Visitors Information System (SEVIS) with intent to become expert in the ISA-specific operation of SEVIS.

6) Must maintain on-going working knowledge of all F-1/M-1 nonimmigrant matters as they evolve and change.

7) Must maintain adherence to all EDMC policies concerning the enrollment and retention of nonimmigrant international students, including those policies concerning the enrollment of nonimmigrant aliens in classifications other than F-1 or M-1.

8) Willingness to travel, as assigned.

9) Ability to participate in the planning and development of ISA-specific corporate training initiatives and proper execution of said training programs.

10) Ability to relate personal cross cultural experiences and expertise in dealing with various multinationals to others less so exposed is essential.

11) Ability to continue to manage existing ISA duties, while additionally embracing new RIC duties is paramount to success as an RIC.

12) Must maintain excellent time-management skills in order to balance multiple priorities.
