The NYC Early Childhood Professional Development Institute (PDI) is a fast-paced, dynamic public/private partnership that works to ensure that all early childhood practitioners have access to a comprehensive system of professional development. The ideal candidate will be a productive member of our team and will possess a genuine interest in furthering the work of the organization.

Position Description: The Project Coordinator is responsible for developing, managing, and promoting PDI’s projects and providing strategic support of the organization’s work of creating a comprehensive system of professional development. The Project Coordinator will focus on the projects that provide direct service to early childhood educators throughout New York City, with particular emphasis on informal/unregulated family child care providers, as well as licensed family child care providers. The incumbent will work with the Administration for Children’s Services and other community-based organizations to insure synergy in service delivery. The Project Coordinator supervises a small capable staff and works as a member of a strong, dynamic leadership team.Â

Duties and Responsibilities: Provide strategic direction in all aspects of the direct service components of the PDI’s work. Lead a team in the design, implementation and presentation of professional development opportunities and basic information for family child care providers. Oversee the organizational commitment to making outreach sessions successful, with attention to event management, hospitality, etc. Establish and maintain relationships with administrative, cultural, educational, and arts organizations to expand and enrich services made available to providers. Continuously assess training and professional development opportunities and plan to coordinate existing resources as well as create new resources. Develop and manage a tracking system for training of individuals. Create pathways and support systems for unregulated family child care providers to move through the licensing system. Provide dynamic and collaborative direction to the development and piloting of new projects as they become appropriate for inclusion in the PDI’s work. Write reports and other materials as needed. Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Qualifications: Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or in a relevant field of study. Five years experience in early childhood education (and/or public policy with a focus on education) or a comparable field of work. Demonstrated ability to work with government agencies, institutions of higher education, and community-based organizations. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent analytical, organizational, and management skills. Experience working collaboratively and flexibility and enthusiasm for multi-tasking. Fluency in a foreign language preferred.
