Position Summary: PACM (the Program in Applied and Computational Mathematics) is an interdisciplinary and interdepartmental program involving faculty and researchers from a wide range of departments, from the physical sciences and engineering to the human sciences, who share a passion for mathematics and its applications. The program manager works closely with the PACM director to execute policy and strategic directions for the daily program operations. The program manager reports directly to the director, with a secondary reporting relationship to the director of academic management in the Office of the Provost.
Principal duties:
The most important aspects of the program manager's responsibilities are financial management, staff supervision, and academic administration. The academic manager ensures that all internal deadlines are met and that the department is compliant with all internal guidelines and external regulations. The academic manager is responsible for attending all relevant training classes offered by the University pertaining to these duties.
The program manager develops the administrative budget for PACM, in collaboration with the director. The manager is responsible for the careful and appropriate management of the program's finances, including endowed funds. The program manager also assists faculty in the preparation, submission, and management of sponsored research and grants.
The program manager supervises three staff members, and shares supervision of two more with the Department Manager of Mathematics. He or she is responsible for staff performance reviews, the merit increase process, and other supervisory duties.
The program manager monitors the teaching budget, and administers searches and appointments of research and technical staff. Additionally, the program manager works closely with the Director of Graduate Studies on academic and financial processes relating to graduate students, including admissions, graduate teaching assistants (AI) assignments and maintaining student records. The manager is also responsible for space allocation and working with appropriate departments to ensure proper facilities maintenance.

- 5-7 years in office management or related administrative position that includes supervisory experience
- Experience in budget management and oversight of financial operations
-Experience in the supervision and monitoring of staff relations and staff development
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Verbally and in writing, managers must skillfully communicate process and policy information to faculty, staff and students
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Ability to anticipate and initiate appropriate action in support of the director and program faculty
- Ability to effectively manage the resources of the program
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Proficiency in computer operations, including e-mail, internet, MS Office software, electronic calendar software, and Adobe applications
Preferred Qualifications

- Proficiency in University administrative applications (including PeopleSoft Financials, CAP/CUP, and Labor Accounting)
-Experience with COEUS, Grants.gov, and NSF FastLane
The final candidate will be required to successfully pass a background check.
