Program Coordinator

The Office of Community Experience (OCE) is responsible for planning and supervising a variety of community programs for medical students.  The Program Coordinator of the OCE will be responsible for managing its clinically related projects, assisting with duties required for the day-to-day operation of the office, and generally providing support to the Assistant Dean for Special Student Services and Community Outreach and the OCE Program Director.  The major clinically-related projects include coordinating the Medical Interpreter Project, as well as coordinating personnel and overseeing maintenance of the Chinatown Clinic.

Responsibilities:

Medical Interpretation Project and the Chinatown Clinic:
 The Program Coordinator will be responsible for all clinically related projects and programs, including the Medical Interpretation Project and the management of the Chinatown Clinic. 
o The Medical Interpretation Project includes coordinating bi-lingual students to serve as medical interpreters at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, the Chinatown Clinic, and various community outreach events.  The Program Coordinator will be responsible for scheduling interpreters, communicating with site coordinators, and scheduling trainings and appreciation events for interpreters. 
o At the Chinatown Clinic, the Program Coordinator will report to the medical director.  She/He will attend all sessions of the clinic, currently meeting every Wednesday afternoon and evening until 9 P.M.  In addition, the Program Coordinator will be responsible for making sure the clinic is ready to function on Wednesday evenings.  Tasks will include, but are not limited to:  pulling and filing charts, coordinating the personnel schedule, ordering supplies as needed, coordinating volunteer appreciation, and other duties that may arise.

Community Education Experience Course and Community Health Component of the Primary Care Practicum:
 Assist in the matching of all first-year IFM and PIL students for their community health projects,
 Track students in completing evaluation component, maintaining computerized record of grades and submitting grades to registrar's office
 Secure and maintain resources and materials needed for projects

Bridging the Gaps:
 Assist in implementing all aspects of the DUCOM component program and the city-wide program, including: participating in recruitment and interviewing process, determining intern payroll eligibility and managing intern payroll, completing multi-faceted program evaluation, scheduling needed meetings, tracking students, and obtaining data for program funding reports
 Facilitate student participation in Bridging the Gaps Seminars and Clinical Elective, including publicizing seminars, tracking student attendance, and communicating with core BTG team

Volunteer Projects:
 Assist program directors in supporting all student-coordinated volunteer programs, providing administrative services and obtaining needed resources.

Miscellaneous:
- General Office Management ? which includes:  providing data on Community Education activities upon request, day-to-day management of office (copying, faxing, ordering office supplies, scheduling appointments, reserving rooms, completing time sheets and check requests)
- Public Relations, including:  maintenance of bulletin boards at Queen Lane, facilitating completion and distribution of the quarterly Volunteer Voice Newsletter, communicating with University Communications Office re: office's current achievements, maintaining website.
- Other responsibilities as required by Faculty

Qualifications:

The Program Coordinator must have a bachelor's degree or the equivalent in experience, in health education or a related field, and dedication to provision of health services to underserved communities, especially people with limited English proficiency.  Bi-lingual skills in speaking, reading and writing Spanish, Mandarin and/or other languages are highly desirable.  As part of a team, this position requires excellent interpersonal, organizational and computer skills; appreciation and understanding of diverse cultures; and a sense of humor.
