By joining the VIF Program as a Public Relations/ Communications Specialist you can help promote VIF's mission of international education and cultural exchange within the VIF organization. Position Description: The PR/Communications Specialist advances the VIF Program’s strategic worldwide public relations initiatives to advance the company’s recruitment, placement and retention priorities, build brand awareness, and strengthen relationships with all customer groups.

 

Reporting to the Director of Marketing, the PR/Communications Specialist is experienced in both Public Relations and Marketing Communications   Job responsibilities will include communicating with external media outlets, schools and teachers; preparing customer success stories, writing and editing external newsletters, press releases and presentations, contributing to the media relations strategic plan and sharing relevant news with internal teams.

 

Essential Responsibilities: Create new opportunities for publicity using traditional media programs and innovative PR techniques and measure, track and report results to organization

  Manage all day-to-day contact with media including crisis communications

  Prepare, review and edit material to support media relations objectives including media kits, talking points, Q&A’s, bylines, fact sheet, press releases, media pitches, customer stories and testimonials

  Evaluate and implement a wide variety of social media tactics, such as blogs, social networks, podcasts, webinars and online video to get VIF’s message across and build brand relationships with VIF’s customers

  Prepare internal speakers for media events and speaking engagements.  Develop strategies and opportunities for external speaking opportunities to further organization goals

  Research and report industry trends and issues.  Leverage industry knowledge to find related news stories that provide opportunities to advance the interests of the organization and mission

  Manage customer-focused newsletters, including publication strategy, story development and writing, editing, layout, printing and mailing

  Develop and sustain excellent working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including the media.  Manage outside vendors as needed





Education and Knowledge Requirements:

  A university degree in journalism, public relations, or communications is required; Minimum of 3 - 5 years of experience in public relations industry or marketing environment; At least 2 years of experience pitching news stories to US media.  Experience pitching stories to international media is a plus.

  Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as excellent presentation skills; Experience applying social media tactics to address communication needs.

  Strong working understanding of educational issues and cultural exchange is beneficial; Ability to understand the company as an insider while maintaining the necessary perspective to advocate externally

  Ability to work under pressure within tight deadlines is essential; Thrives and has proven effectiveness in juggling project plans and multiple assignments on deadline; Keen intuitive and interpersonal skills, a team-player approach and the ability to handle highly confidential material.

  Record of generating measurable results and ability to measure marketing program return-on-investment; Experience managing and negotiating with external vendors.
