Filing Deadline: 09/04/2008 or until filled.DESCRIPTION:As part of the Coastal Observing Research and Development Center (CORDC), participate in the installation, testing, and maintaining of remote high frequency (HF) radar sites and supporting in-situ measurements. Configure and maintain equipment including HF Radar network, transmit and receive components, remote computer systems. Assist in the design, programming, and maintaining of computer code for real-time data acquisition. Test software configuration of field equipment to include HF radars, meteorological sensors, current meters, and data transfer networking equipment. Provide assistance in archiving of data on a linux server. Perform data analysis and graphic production for journal publications and conference presentations. Participate in purchasing, hardware configuration, software installation, and data transfer mechanisms.QUALIFICATIONS:* B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, Oceanography or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.* Familiarity with programming and scripting languages for sensor interface and data transfer using C/C++, shell scripting.* Familiarity with web interface design for dissemination of data products using Perl, PHP, MySQL, HTML, CGI, Java, JavaScript.* Experience with database design, implementation, management, access and display of SQL, Antelope databases.* Experience with programming mathematical packages for data analysis and visualization using Matlab, GMT, Mathematica.* Knowledge of system administration in UNIX, LINUX, and OSX operating environment.Preferred:* Knowledge of commercial data communication protocols (DSL, GPRS freewave, 802.11x, GPRS, and CDMA) for remote access, networking, and data transfer.* General knowledge of concepts in remote sensing, ocean physics, statistical analysis to apply current algorithms for antenna and sensor optimization.* Experience with integrating data products from laboratory and field instrumentation for publication purposes.* Familiarity with the design and configuration of ocean-going hardware.SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:* California Driver's License required.* Able and willing to go to sea &/or remote sites for at-sea operations, field testing, and experiments up to 30 days per year (1-2 trips).Excellent benefits that start the first day of hire.Interested candidates, please apply via our Web site at: http://joblink.ucsd.edu/bulletin/job.html?cat=information&job_id=46942UC San Diego is an Equal Opportunity / Staff Affirmative Action Employer that values a diverse workforce.
