Under the direction of the supervisor, the Program Specialist will assist in overseeing, planning and organizing development of the department activities. Provide consultation and liaison with faculty, students, advisors and other individuals and groups. Implement routine, but specialized aspects of the program independently; perform a wide variety of specialized clerical duties; train and provide work direction to student or hourly clerical assistants as assigned. Work toward establishing a calendar of events and activities.
*Categorical Program Status: Continuation of employment is contingent upon funding.
ASSIGNMENT
53.3% of full time, 20 hours per week, 12 months per year; Schedule may change to occasionally include some evening or weekend hours, as needed. Work Location: Mission College
SALARY AND BENEFITS
- $1934.79 - $2,105.88 entry level / $2,538.15 maximum earnable excluding longevity and educational growth.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination equivalent to:
- Any combination of education or work experience equivalent to completion of a two year college degree, with two years of increasingly responsible work experience.
- Candidates with foreign degrees must provide official certification of equivalency to U.S. degrees by a certified U.S. credential review service. Simple translation of the language on foreign diplomas, transcripts, coursework, or similar documentation will NOT suffice; thus, will cause the application packet to be judged as incomplete.
- Demonstrated ability to work with persons of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
- Operation of computer equipment and various software programs.
- Oral and written communication skills.
- Record keeping and filing methods.
- Basic principles of training and supervision.
- Interpersonal skills including tact, patience and courtesy.
- Responsible and difficult clerical work with speed and accuracy in a multi-task environment.
Ability to:
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Provide training and work direction to student assistants as assigned.
- Operate office equipment such as a computer terminal, printer, copier and fax machine.
- Plan, organize, and coordinate events and program activities.
- Use word processing, spreadsheet and database management software.
- Collect, compile and analyze data.
- Relate effectively to people of varied academic, cultural and socio-economic background using tact, diplomacy and courtesy.
- Maintain timely and accurate records and reports.
- Work independently with little supervision.
- Assist program manager with special events and projects.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Prepare written reports, participate in strategy meetings for calendar and program development.
- Collect, maintain, and organize data.
- Develop, organize and coordinate activities.
- Provide information and assistance to instructors, college staff and the public regarding the program.
- Train and provide work direction to student assistants and others as assigned.
- Prepare and maintain database of program activities.
- Gather, organize, and compile data for quarterly and annual reports.
- Attend meetings, prepare correspondence and reports, maintain records and perform related office clerical work; establish and maintain filing systems.
- Operate office equipment including computer, printer, calculator and copier.
- Work as part of a team in conjunction with the program staff.
