Responsibilities
Consult and work with faculty, graduate students and undergraduate students to ensure the successful design and fabrication of research equipment, including specifying instrumentation and assisting with ordering parts and supplies. This responsibility includes participation in the design phase; interaction with vendors; timely fabrication and/or interaction with outside machinists; and oversight during implementation and evaluation. Ensure effective operation of departments undergraduate teaching laboratories, including fabrication, and ordering of required equipment and supplies. Operate and maintain departments servo-hydraulic material testing system as well as provide maintenance support for other laboratory equipment. Provide support to department-based student organizations that use the laboratories. Responsible for departments machine shop. Assist in maintaining departments personal computer inventory.
Qualifications
B.S. in Civil Engineering or closely related field, or appropriate technical training or certification. Familiarity with engineering principles and laboratories. Familiarity with general machine shop principles and operation. Experience with laboratory equipment including mechanical systems, electronics and instrumentation, data acquisition systems. Strong communication skills and ability to interact effectively with faculty, staff, students and outside vendors.
