Jobs USA: Program Manager
The program manager is responsible for all administrative aspects of 2 Regional Programs: the Program in Russian and Eurasian Studies and the Program in Contemporary European Politics and Society. As part of the Global Seminars team, directs all administrative aspects of 1-2 Global Seminars offered annually by PIIRS, working with the Princeton faculty directors and the international host institutions on all arrangements per seminar for 1 to 2 faculty, 15 Princeton students, and 5 international students, as well as excursions and overseas facilities.
Other major assignments include oversight of the Workshop in Arab Political Development and of graduate summer funding. In 2011-12, responsibilities include the management of a workshop for the Luce Project on Migration, Participation, and Democratic Governance in the U.S., Europe, and the Muslim World. Beginning in 2012-13, responsibilities may include the management of 1 \"research community.\"
Regional Programs
- Manages all aspects of the programs' events.
- Manages the undergraduate certificate programs, including advising students on course selection; oversees the administration of senior thesis preparation and submission.
- Manages \"Princeton in St. Petersburg,\" an undergraduate semester-long/year-long language study program at the Nevsky Institute.
- Manages the programs' budgets in consultation with the program directors and the PIIRS business coordinator.
- Manages the program's website.
- Revises the undergraduate announcement.
Workshop on Arab Political Development
- Works with the director on all aspects of programming, including a lecture series, 2 to 3 workshops/conferences per year, and monthly graduate student meetings.
Global Seminars
- Works with the GS faculty directors on the application, interview, and selection process of seminar students.
- Ensures that the Princeton and host-institution students have access to Blackboard, e-reserves, and other online resources as needed; that facilities at the host institution are appropriate and meet the needs of the seminar; and that required books and other seminar materials are available onsite.
- Assists the onsite coordinator with arrangements for international guests and language instruction for the seminar.
- Facilitates weekly seminar excursions, which may include weekend trips that require overnight accommodation and special transportation (bus, train, international flights).
- With the PIIRS business coordinator, processes international wire transfers of funds for a variety of seminar expenses. Requires facility with international currencies.
- Maintains complete records on all students, including financial aid, flights, contact information. Ensures that all students register via the University Travel Database.
- Ensures that all students have proper documentation (passport and visa) for travel abroad.
- Arranges predeparture meetings for students and faculty.
- Via e-mail, Skype, and telephone, is available to faculty directors and students for assistance as needs arise during the full 6 weeks of the seminar.
Graduate Summer Funding
- Manages the graduate summer funding application in consultation with the Graduate School and the PIIRS director.
- On average, processes 200 applications for summer funding for research and language grants and 50 applications for dissertation writing grants.
PIIRS \"Research Community\" (a 3-year, interdisciplinary research project)
- Manages all aspects of 1 to 2 research communities per year, including monthly events (approx. 7 per year per community), public lectures (approx. 5 per year per community, and conferences and smaller meetings (3-5 per year per community.
A viable candidate for this position must:
- have strong interpersonal skills and work cooperatively with a wide variety of campus offices;
- be detail-oriented, organized, and able to priortize numerous projects in a fast-paced environment;
- exercise good judgment when handling confidential information;
- be able to work independently, take initiative, and meet deadlines with ease;
- be able to manage, on average, 40 events per year;
- know and be able to enforce University policies for international study abroad; and
- be proficient in Microsoft Office, CMS, Sharepoint, PowerPoint, Blackboard, E-reserves.
This position is currently under review for a possible upgrade in rank.
