For more information about DeVry University, visit http://www.devry.edu Position Summary The Instructional Designer is primarily responsible managing the design and development of course materials, interactive and multimedia technology-driven components, and other support materials during online course development. As part of the Instructional Design Team, this individual develops and disseminates course design standards, as well as measures and analyzes course effectiveness and usability across the curriculum. At times the Instructional Designer may design and develop support materials for DeVry Online initiatives outside course development. The Instructional Designer reports to DeVry Online’s Director, Program Development.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: A. Instructional Design and Technology Working with Program Deans, Subject Matter Experts, and other development staff, the Instructional Designer supports and manages the design and development of online courses, and implements interactive course materials, multimedia technology-driven applications, and other support materials. 1. Participate in the training of Subject Matter Experts. 2. Work closely with the Subject Matter Expert during course design and development, and communicating regularly with the Program Dean and others involved with the effort. 3. Collaboratively designs and develops instructional media pieces and other course elements for incorporation into the course. 4. Ensure that all new or updated course masters comply with all existing design standards. 5. Evaluate educational technologies. 6. Assist in the formal evaluation of relevant third-party content options, from publishers, vendors of off-the-shelf e-learning content, and e-learning consultants. 7. Develop tools and reusable templates for instructional development. 8. Supervise vendors, Instructional Technologists, and other personnel for particular projects, as assigned. B. Standards Development Work with others throughout Academic Operations, the Instructional Designer develops, continually refine, and disseminate standards and best practices for course design and for development of instructional media. C. Special Projects The Instructional Designer is responsible to: 1. Analyze course effectiveness and usability across the curriculum. 2. Develop and/or maintain online web-based resources such as tutorials, reference material, design standards, content resources, templates, and announcements. 3. Assist in curriculum process improvement efforts. D. General Administrative and School wide Projects 1. Participate in DeVry Online and School wide projects 2. Participate in regular and special DeVry Online team meetings. 3. Perform other duties as assigned. Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills: The Instructional Designer holds a degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or a related area. A master’s degree or Ph.D. is strongly preferred. The Instructional Designer possesses excellent communications and writing skills. In addition, the candidate is knowledgeable of web technologies and instructional authoring tools such as Flash and Dreamweaver, and has experience with online distance education.
