Instructional Design/Development Specialist
Reporting to the director of learning & development, the instructional designer/development specialist will evaluate programming to design programs and advise on the use of technology, where necessary to provide supplemental support to training initiatives. This position will also identify and create other opportunities for training programs as they relate to the needs of the campus community. This position will be responsible for facilitation and platform training, providing consultation to departments as part of an HR cross-functional team, program analysis and using technology to develop curriculum via a variety of learning formats. In addition, this position will support the current L&D team in providing facilitation, cohort, small group and classroom training.
Specifically, the instructional designer/development specialist will work with the L&D team to create assessment guidelines for successful employee performance improvement through the application of learning. Also, this position will evaluate how and if curricular offerings relate to employee performance improvement and identify their impact on the employee's department or unit. Data from these evaluations will inform efforts to improve the effectiveness of the training, as well as its method of delivery. This position will assist and in some instances lead in the collection and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data about our programs in order to improve or close gaps in the curriculum.
Instructional Design (35%)
1. Identify and evaluate the use and effectiveness of new technologies (i.e. shared network sites, podcasts, social media, etc.). Partner with HR Systems, Staffing & Communications to develop social media strategy for OHR.
2. Conduct needs analysis to determine training needs, target audience, and appropriate training methods. Recommend appropriate instructional technologies based on client or departmental needs.
3. Act as consultant and partner with the L&D team, others within HR, and external partners to facilitate training, develop targeted departmental sessions and assess impact based on manager feedback.
4. Work with the L&D team to create a methodology to design a \"development roadmap\" for individual employees aligned to his or her departmental or positional goals.
Assessment & Learning Application (35%)
1. Establish and manage a process for measuring the effectiveness and applications of training programs.
2.Identify areas of improvement.
a. Focus on more advanced tiers of learning evaluation to determine the actual behavioral improvement and performance based improvement realized and its impact in the department.
3. Innovate methods to apply formal learning experiences to the daily work.
4. Create trend reports to identify components for informal learning.
5. Assist in the oversight of training data collection; analyze participant feedback and course evaluation data to recommend improvements to the curriculum, content, and facilitator delivery.
6. Develop and administer engagement assessments to determine training effectiveness, learning transfer, and behavioral/skill improvement in performance is realized by the individual and the department.
Program Development (30%)
Through the use of Instructional Design principle research, assess, design, develop, implement and evaluate learning programs that support the L&D learning philosophy and the needs of the University population currently not being specifically addressed.
-Administrative Support program for biweekly B and entry level professional staff positions.
-Leadership programs or workshops for senior leaders grades 7-10.
-Assist in the cultivation of cultural competency training in collaboration with campus partners.
-Provide benchmarking information and updates on best practices in adult learning and professional development.
Essential Qualifications
Position requires:
-Four to six years experience in course design, curriculum/program design, or usage of learning technologies, preferably in higher education.
-Advanced degree in instructional design/technology, curriculum design or related field.
-Experience with online course management tools.
-Familiarity with multimedia and web design technologies.
-Understanding and application of adult learning principles for a diverse employee population.
-Ability to facilitate classes at a variety of levels.
-Ability to manage projects from inception to completion
-Demonstrated success in the assessment, design, development, implementation, and implementation of effective and efficient training programs.
-Knowledge of and experience with the ADDIE process or other instructional design theory.
-Knowledge of and experience with Kirkpatrick's Four Levels of Evaluation.
-Awareness of effective learning trends, new delivery formats, including how it impacts our diverse employee population.
-Experience or understanding of various instructional technologies including learning management systems (LMS) such as Learn.com, shared network sites, social media networks, podcasts, wikis, etc.
-Demonstrated strong research and data analysis skills
-Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
-Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills
-Excellent interpersonal skills.
The finalist will be required to successfully pass a background check.
Preferred Qualifications
-Knowledge of principle and practices of instructional design and e-learning.
-Knowledge of learning resources in a variety of formats including print, graphics, audio, video, to support curriculum offerings.
