INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY OPERATING SYSTEMS ANALYST - FOUNDATION LEVELCalifornia State University, Dominguez Hills, was established in 1960 and is one of the 23 campuses that comprise The California State University system. CSU Dominguez Hills is an urban, comprehensive public university that serves a student body of over 12,500 students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The campus is located on a 346-acre site in the South Bay portion of the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area.

Department: Office of Information Technology - Administrative Information Systems

Administrative Information Systems provides support to administrative and academic compuer users on campus. The support includes development, maintenance and operation of integrated systems to assist faculty and staff and other administrative computing applications.

Major Job duties: Under the direction of the Director of Administrative information Systems and working with the Information Technology Staff in supporting Academic adn Administrative servers to install, configure, analyze and maintain systems hardware and related operating systems. Primary responsibilities include: installin upgrades, patches, backing up and documentation of current servers and support hardware. To advise and install new servers based on user requirements. Work with director in developing systems lifecycles and identifying further anticipated needs.

15% - Operating System Installation: Ensure operating system hardware and software is properly installed, tested, and tuned to maximize operating efficiency.

20% - Operating System Modification: Customize and upgrade operating and related systems to meet ongoing user needs.

30% - Operating Systems Performance Analysis: Evaluate level of systems operation and reecommend measures to improve overall performance.

30% - Operating System Maintenance; Monitor and maintain operating and related systems to ensure minimal interruption of production systems and maintain maximum system availability. Supply support for CMS (Common System Management) Portal including backups and security.

15% - Operations Support: Monitor and maintain backups, UPS and other system support hardware. Maintain documentation for procedures, logs and equipment. Working with IT staff to inventory hardware for Security and documentation.

Qualifications:

Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of internal operating systems technology, computer and hardware, and network communications. Ability to use performance monitoring software and interpret results. Perform preventative and remedial maintenance to operating system(s). Evaluate existing and proposed systems adn recommend upgrades and/or modifications.

Skills in: Communication, including oral and written. Skills in establishing and documenting operation procedures and inventory. Understanding of network operating system and network architecture, configuration and protocols.

Experience: At least two years of experience in managing operating systems in a large computer center. Preferred experiene installin and configuring Windows 2003, DPM, UNIXm Solaris, ARCserve and Veritas.

Education Preferred: A Bachelor's Degree, preferably in computer science or business, or equivalent training and applied experience.

Salary and benefits: The salary range for this classification is: $3,424 - $5,466

The maximum salary the department is willing to pay is $3,800.
