Provide technical and functional proficiency to system users and recommend creative/innovative solutions to meet their needs.Job Duties Applies specialized knowledge of business systems and analyzes situations requiring evaluation of one or more functional areas where data contains various tangible and non-tangible factors.* Creates, formulates and defines systems scope and objectives based on both user needs and comprehensive understanding of applicable business processes and functional requirements.* Conducts comprehensive analysis of business and user needs, documents requirements and translates into proper system requirement specifications.* Competent to work at a high technical level in most phases of systems analysis, while considering the business implications of the application of technology to the current and future environment.* Develops, implements, and communicates internal control procedures and guidelines for business systems operations.* Provides technical and functional proficiency in designing systems and process solutions, and creating functional design documents.* Organizes and plans the development, patch and upgrade testing, including creation of scripts and formal test plan documentation for development and/or enhancement of existing and new applications.* Participates in the development of training plan and imparts training to functional users on new tools and development changes.* Provides sustaining engineering activity and upgrade for system modules and related interfaces or associated third party software solutions.* Partners with functional organization and development team to provide innovative solutions to user requirements.* Leads moderately complex to complex and sensitive projects.Minimum Requirements Must be proficient in Oracle applications, experience with Oracle 11i/12 HR, Payroll and/or Exeter/PeopleSoft Students Systems a plus.* Bachelor's degree or equivalent.* At least 4 years of related experience in supporting end users of administrative systems.* 5 or more years experience implementing or supporting Oracle HR and payroll.* Prior experience with leading business systems projects.* Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft suite of business applications including VISIO, Remedy and other relevant software packages.* Must have successful experience in training users on administrative systems.* Must have a good working knowledge of administrative functions and relevant Institute policies.* Some experience using SQL, TOAD, and other analysis tools will be useful.* Previous academic/research administrative experience will be a benefit.The selected candidate must pass a pre-employment background investigation to be hired for this position.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong functional experience with Oracle HR, Payroll and OTL applications.* Successful candidate will be energetic, enthusiastic and committed to delivering excellent customer service.* Ability to work well in a team environment.* Demonstrated ability to build successful partnerships with customer groups.* Good understanding of customer culture, activities, and needs for the development and execution of support services.* Ability to quickly understand and become proficient in new applications.* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.* Ability to multi-task and handle moderately complex to complex situations/projects.* Ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities, and meet aggressive deadlines.The Career Level and Salary determination will be based on the applicant's experience, skills and competencies as they relate to the requirements of this position.Caltech is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer.
