We have an excellent opportunity within our Administrative Information Systems (AIS) organization for a Systems Programmer.
Work as part of a team responsible for planning, implementing, testing, securing, tuning, troubleshooting, and documenting the IBM mainframe z/OS operating system, major subsystems (DB2, CICS), and program products. Ensure the mainframe system is available, reliable, performing optimally, and cost effectively in support of UCLA administrative computing requirements. Work to improve the environment by replacing antiquated processes and taking advantage of new technology as appropriate. Address technical problems promptly to resolution, and perform in a technical consulting capacity to other department staff in support of UCLA computing directions. Collaborate with other groups in the implementation of cross-platform (mainframe and distributed/open systems) applications. Support UCLA disaster recovery initiatives.
Desired Qualifications:
Detailed knowledge of IBM z/OS operating system software and facilities, including SMPE and Assembler; Knowledge of mainframe hardware including disk and tape systems.Knowledge of DB2 relational database, CICS Transaction Server, TCP/IP, VTAM, and SNA. Skill in performing systems testing, including validation and verification. Ability to carry out the testing process in a clear, complete, technically sound, and well documented manner. Ability to respond to production problems quickly, accurately, independently, and with appropriate communication and follow-up. Ability to perform technical analysis that is thorough, accurate, practical, correctly considers technical constraints, and meets user requirements. Skill in writing code that is easily maintainable and meets AIS specifications. Ability to use resources (WWW, publications, vendors, user groups) to maintain current knowledge of information systems. Ability to ensure the security and integrity of all data, software, and systems resources. Ability to prepare project plans and schedules with minimal direction from management. Skill in estimating time, effort and resources required for software tasks and projects. Ability to work in a continuously changing and evolving technological and organizational environment. Ability to provide AIS staff with information that is accurate, sound, timely and understandable.Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other staff members and users.Ability to prepare documents that are clearly written, well organized, well structured, accurate, complete and are professional in appearance; experience with MS Office suite of products: Word, Excel, Project, Outlook, PowerPoint.
