Full Time Instructor

The Art Institute of Tampa is seeking a full-time instructor within the Web Design and Interactive Media (WDIM). The WDIM department takes an innovative approach to teaching undergraduate interactive design education by preparing future interactive designers for a global economy in the 21st century. Specifically, areas such as sustainability, strategic value, collaboration, business, marketing and design strategy are addressed and explored through discussion and project-based classes.

 

The Web Design and Interactive Media program is a user-centered design program.

Program outcomes are focused on creativity, design strategy, and technology solutions across media platforms. Program competencies are those related to interface design, interactivity, visual design, database design, dynamic content design, technology, and information design.

Web Design and Interactive Media graduates can expect to find employment in the interactive design field.

The successful candidate should be able to teach, or be open to teaching a wide range of traditional web design and interactive related courses including digital/interactive typography, various levels of authoring and scripting courses, motion graphics and motion scripting, e-learning, e-commerce, usability, project management, audio, advanced database concepts/ dynamic database driven web sites, and open source content management systems and assisting students in developing an understanding, use, and a sense of value of a documented design process throughout every project with a continual emphasis on design process, design and design problem solving; not just ‘software or technology.’ Candidate should be dedicated to on-going professional development and research.

 

Instructor is responsible to teach five, 4-hour classes, per quarter. Full-time faculty attends department meetings and initiatives and all-school faculty meetings, as well as assist with student advising and serve on an institutional committee.

 

Qualifications:

 

Required:  Only applicants possessing the following qualifications will be considered:

• Master’s Degree in interactive media or related design field of study. A candidate with a Master’s Degree in graphic/communication design with strong evidence of interactive design work and technical ability would definitely be considered

• Some industry experience

• Some college-level teaching experience

• Be willing to teach a diverse course load each quarter based on student-centered learning principles

• Cross-functional skills of web/interactive skills and traditional design principles

• Demonstrate competency with PC AND Macintosh platform and creative software applications for both interactive and print communications.

• Interest in teaching sustainability principles within a web design and interactive media curriculum, or be willing to learn how to incorporate those principles

• Develop clearly articulated course materials

• Willingness to work in a cross-departmental educational environment

• Continual focus on development of student portfolios

• Strong problem solving and interpersonal communication skills

• Strong writing and communication skills

 

 

Preferred:  Preference may be given to candidates who have:

• At least 5 years industry experience

• At least 3 years college-level teaching experience

• Evidence of teaching diverse course material based on student-centered learning principles

• Experience of incorporating and developing sustainability-driven and strategic design projects
