Educational Specialist
As a member of the Associate Commissioner's Office of the Center for Student Support, Career and Education Services, you will work with schools to implement the Board of Education's recommendations on the Support and Safety of Gay and Lesbian Students and act as lead staff in matters related to students civil rights. We will rely on your insight and guidance to develop policies protecting gay, lesbian and other students from harassment, violence, and discrimination. Working with schools, you will offer training to personnel in violence prevention, suicide prevention and civil rights, while providing support to schools that seek assistance in establishing school-based support groups. Based on assignment, you will travel throughout the Commonwealth and out of state as required.
Interested applicants must have a Bachelor's Degree and at least four years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional educational experience in a specific or related content area, educational program/or service, a Master's degree or higher in a specific or related educational content area may be substituted for two years of the required experience. Exceptional communication skills, along with knowledge of effective and comprehensive suicide and violence prevention programs including supportive research, theory and evaluations as related to issues facing Gay and Lesbian Youth are essential. Knowledge of civil rights and equal education opportunity laws and regulations are also key.
