Education Curriculum Specialist (Full Time)

The Education Curriculum Specialist reports to the Senior Manager of Education and School Relations and assists with the development and delivery of educational content for grades K-12. The primary focus of this position is to develop and evaluate educational materials, curriculum and lesson plans for the components of The Tech s Year Round Second Classroom initiative and associated programs. The programs associated with this initiative include educational labs, after-school activities, weekend workshops and special, targeted programming. The Education Curriculum Specialist will maintain high learning standards with a focus on accountability to teachers and the institution s needs and provide high quality content, delivery and evaluation of this curriculum. The Education Curriculum Specialist is an exempt position that allows an individual to work in a unique learning environment where work performed can see immediate results. This position comes with a competitive benefits package.ResponsibilitiesThrough the initial guidance and direction of the head of Education, design and develop a comprehensive curriculum plan. Develop educational materials for various venues including classrooms, labs, after-school activities, workshops and web interface. Create engaging content of the highest quality in the areas of science, technology and basic engineering. Support the educational goals of the department by providing research and evaluation of the programs for continued growth and improvement. Observe and on occasion deliver educational content. Support the grant funding reporting needs of the institution with observations, evaluation, participant tracking and summary reports of results. Partner with the head of Educational Labs and Summer Camps to ensure consistency and a seamless learning environment in parallel programs. Coordinate and assist in planning teacher resource materials and give tours to museum supporters and partners. Work closely with other informal learning institutions to create and provide curriculum. Instruct in The Tech s in-house design challenge labs and other activities on an as needed basis if other staffing is unavailable. Assist the head of Education with administrative duties and fiscal year planning in support of Year Round Second Classroom components. Other job related duties as assigned. Work as Museum Operations Manager (MOM) for one day each month to connect with the daily activities of the museum operation. RequirementsBachelor s degree in science or education. Three to five years experience working in informal/formal science education. Proven experience writing curriculum, lesson plans and activities for formal and informal learning environments. Ability to make complicated science concepts accessible to general school age audiences. Demonstrated excellent teaching and presentation skills. Experience in internal evaluation of educational activities, programs and/or exhibitions. Experience with or willingness to incorporate new technologies for curriculum design and distribution. Flexibility and ability to seen new educational programs as learning challenges. Outstanding organizational skills with attention to detail. Self-starter with the ability to work collaboratively. Excellent interpersonal skills and computer skills. Ability to professionally and enthusiastically represent the institution to outside donors, partners and political leaders. Possess high energy for the learning model of the museum, creativity and enthusiasm. Familiarity with California Science Content Standards. Master s degree a plus. Ability to frequently sit and walk. Ability to reach with hands and arms. Ability to stand for extended periods of time. Ability to work outdoors when necessary. Tolerance of high levels of noise from both students in an active classroom setting and museum exhibition elements. Must be able to safely lift up to 25 lbs. Must be able to perform some repetitive motions (typing, writing) 50% of the time. Salary
