Director of Development & Alumni Relations
The Director of Development & Alumni Relations provides leadership and management of the direction, planning, and execution of fund-raising and development related activities for the college and the foundation in cooperation with the Foundation Board.
This will include, but is not limited to, major gift fundraising, developing and implementing alumni service programs, and serving as a liaison for multidisciplinary development efforts across the campus.
Essential FunctionsHire, train, supervise and evaluate team members and provide or ensure appropriate team training, coaching and assignment of responsibility. Coordinate and conduct all fund-raising activities, including donor development and retention, annual gifts, major gifts, fund-raising events, planned giving and other means to fund scholarships & programs and build the operating and endowment funds. Create fund-raising strategies in consultation with the Vice President. Work with Marketing and Communications to develop fund-raising materials, including an annual report, web-based opportunities, brochures, annual solicitations and alumni newsletter. Coordinate all Foundation and development events and activities and work closely with campus constituency to assist them in their fundraising activities. Work closely with gift processor and scholarship assistant to develop diverse mechanisms of appropriate donor and volunteer stewardship. Provide ongoing training, advice and guidance to Campaign volunteers. Coordinate volunteer activities/events. Monitor and communicate the status of solicitations/assignments. Coordinate a comprehensive internal/external giving campaign, including direct mail, phone/thank-a-thon, and related special events. Maintain a prospect load for personal solicitations. Assist in the preparation of foundation proposals and corporate solicitations. Represent the college and the foundation to internal/external constituent groups in college and community friend/fundraising activities. Create, coordinate and manage efforts to reach alumni including an annual college event, newsletter, and web-based methods of communication. Prepare and maintain a calendar of all Foundation, alumni and development activities. Assist in the preparation, publication and distribution of the Foundation's annual report. Endorse the Donor Bill of Rights of the Association of Fund Raising Professionals and the Modern Standards of Practice for the Charitable Gift Planner adopted by the National Committee on Planned Giving and maintain membership in appropriate professional associations. Organize and write brochures, letters soliciting funds, thank you letters, reports and speeches in clear, succinct but persuasive grammatical language with attention to detail. Prepare and present to the Executive Director appropriate reports, as requested. Work with and coordinate the activities of all Foundation Board committees in consultation with the Executive Director. Assist the Executive Director in preparing reports and information for the Foundation Board of Directors.Other FunctionsRelated duties as assigned.QualificationsMinimum QualificationsBachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent combination of education & experience. Three to five years full time equivalent progressively responsible fundraising experience. Experience with supervision of professional level staff with leadership, management, and administrative skills that motivate and build professional support staff competencies. Computer proficiency. Experience using a variety of software to manage data. Experience with Microsoft Office preferred.Preferred QualificationsExperience in developing a compreshensive fund-raising program and alumni relations. Experience working with institutions of higher education. This is a full-time, exempt position contracted on an annual basis. The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $72,000. The salary will be prorated to reflect the remaining contract This position requires flexibility in scheduling including evening and weekend work.Selection Process
