Director of Curriculum & Research

SUMMARY

The Director of Curriculum and Research is responsible for ensuring that all CRSS training and consulting events have innovative, high-quality, and fresh curriculum materials that explicate the Reform Governance framework.  He/she also provides support to all staff in order to ensure the quality of all CRSS written materials (e.g., reports, proposals, correspondence).

 

REPORTS TO:

Chief Operating Officer

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES Ensure the integrity of the content of all institute curriculum and training materials Plan, design, and create materials for all CRSS training and consulting events Plan, design, and create materials for CRSS evaluation work (e.g., develop surveys and assessment instruments, report on findings, prepare data displays, review materials and respond to questions from external evaluators) Plan, design, and create materials for CRSS alumni outreach Oversee external contractors involved in curriculum development and evaluation work Conduct ongoing research on school boards and education policy nationwide and in Texas Support CRSS efforts in the areas of trainer and faculty selection, evaluation, and development Respond to requests for policies, research, and information on specific reform topics from CRSS staff, consultants, etc. Review documents written by CRSS staff, as requested Assist in on-boarding new CRSS employees Other responsibilities as assigned

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in education, journalism, or communications required; master’s degree preferred Minimum of 8 years of experience writing about education topics for a range of audiences Extensive knowledge of school reform issues in general (required), policy analysis and development (required), and urban school districts (preferred) Familiarity with the work of school boards (required) Excellent writing and editing skills Strong oral communication skills Extensive knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods and ability to interpret evaluation/survey data Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously Extensive proficiency in use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

 PERFORMANCE METRICS Participants’ ratings of curriculum materials Project managers’ satisfaction with quality, timeliness, and freshness of curriculum and training materials CRSS faculty members’ and consultants’ satisfaction with curriculum and training materials

 POSITION DETAILS          

This position relies extensively on the project managers (for clarity regarding deadlines, budgets, etc.), on the knowledge manager (for ready access to all CRSS intellectual property), on the events and logistics department (e.g., for information regarding participant needs and feedback), and on the Chief Operating Officer and CRSS president (for guidance on future needs and institutional objectives).  This position also requires close collaboration and clear communication with associates and external contractors.
