Community Marketing Specialist

 

Marketing: Applies conventional and innovative approaches (especially utilizing multimedia) to market Kamehameha Publishing products to Hawaiian learners, educators, and the general public both here in Hawai`i and in the global market. Develops and maintains a marketing calendar for regular communications with primary book purchasers (distributors, book stores, libraries, schools, etc.) regarding events, special promotions, and new products (e.g., new product announcements). Monitors market trends and works with retailers and distributions to position Kamehameha Publishing at the leading edge of product marketing and distribution. Works with authors, contributors, distributors, retailers, and other appropriate parties to plan marketing strategies for titles. Coordinates marketing efforts with Kamehameha Publishing and appropriate CRC staff. Tracks sales and distribution of products to monitor, evaluate, and improve marketing efforts. Reports on specific sales and distribution results of targeted marketing efforts. 

 

Community relationship building: Works with leaders and staff/members of community groups and foundations, Hawaiian organizations and agencies, educational institutions (including other groups and divisions of Kamehameha Schools), and businesses to facilitate partnerships with Kamehameha Publishing that result in the development, marketing, and/or distribution of products to Hawaiian learners, those involved in their education, and the general public. Focuses on maintaining relationships with individual editorial board members to encourage their full participation in their editorial board roles and in Kamehameha Publishing’s overall marketing and distribution efforts. 

 

Product development: Meets and coordinates with Kamehameha Publishing staff to develop collectively products that address market demands, that stimulate market interest, and that meet identified educational needs of Hawaiian learners. 

 

Development of marketing materials. Develops marketing materials (web content, advertisements, flyers, etc.), as needed, in coordination with the Kamehameha Publishing team and appropriate CRC staff. 

 

Data management: Assists with inputting information into a Kamehameha Publishing database related to marketing and community relations functions. 
 

Position Requirements: 

 

• Over three and less than five years of related work experience OR High School Diploma and 5 years of directly related experience relating to marketing and developing partnerships with leaders of community groups and foundations, Hawaiian organizations and agencies, educational institutions, and businesses.

 

• Experience in marketing to Hawaiian or general audiences here in Hawai`i and globally.

 

• Experience in working with community groups and foundations, Hawaiian organizations and agencies, educational institutions, and businesses—especially with a focus on community relations functions and partnership development.

 

• Background in publishing.

 

• Familiarity with applying multimedia to market products or services.

 

• Familiarity with Hawaiian language, culture, and history, and an understanding of Kamehameha Schools’ mission.

 

• Experience in working on collaborative projects with co-workers and other multiple stakeholders.

 

• Ability to develop and implement creative options in accomplishing identified goals.

 

• Experience in a leadership role.

 

• Ability to develop a positive rapport and working relationship with a wide variety of individuals and organizations as well as a commitment to maintain and nurture such relationships over time.

 

• Exceptional communication and presentation skills.

 

• Ability to work independently to meet established goals.

 

• Ability to meet deadlines consistently. 
 

Educational Requirements:

 

Bachelors Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Information Technology, Hawaiian studies or related field
